Polimoda International Institute of Fashion Design & Marketing is an Italian centre of excellence,recognized worldwide for its high quality, fashion-oriented, didactic offer ranging from Design & Marketing to Management and Communication, in line with industry and fashion company needs.
Polimoda relies on a team of professors with a solid background and experience in the fashion industry, a team focused on providing students with an updated education, always in-line with the fast changing fashion business. Our faculty is expert in the different fields of fashion design, marketing, management, branding, communication, trends, footwear and pattern design as well as research in fashion.
Polimoda started in 1986 as a joint project co-financed by the cities of Florence and Prato, along with entrepreneurial associations and the collaboration of FIT, the Fashion Institute of Technology from the State University of New York.
Polimoda continues to work closely with the Tuscan Region and the provinces of Prato and Florence.
Polimoda is also a member of IFFTI (International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes).
The Polimoda Library Documentation Centre "Matteo Lanzoni" is a place of memory, inspiration and creativity.
It contains the most important international collection of monographs, periodicals, videos, look books, and antique, rare and precious materials for creative artists.
It is a different kind of library, conceived for the creative artist, for the person who treats his own mind differently (Louis I. Kahn), in other words who is able to see images not as they appear to the ordinary eye, but to see what his mind tells him to see.
The library is organised in 4 areas:
Textiles and clothing, the original core of the library;
Art, in all its forms;
Photography, comprising nature, fashion, travel and anthropological photos;
Innovation management, how to fuel creativity and manage innovation.
The collection is completed by a collection of Magazines and the Film Library.
In 1994 Polimoda created a new centre for computer technology to meet the educational requirements of students, provide training for those in the clothing sector, for the teachers and students on professional training courses and to provide a point of reference for businesses and professionals in the fashion trade who wished to make use of CAD-CAM programmes.
By continually investing in the maintenance and improvement of its systems, the Technology Centre is now recognised as an educational centre of excellence for the use of new technologies in the fashion sector.
Partnerships with leading sector companies who offer their services to Polimoda enable students to work in a context which closely reflects that of production from the earliest stages.
Polimoda is the first school in Italy to use Visual Retailing 4 software for visual merchandising (from 3D graphics for window dressing to back office support) and Atelier98 for retail management (from accounting to forecasting and business intelligence) in addition to CAD software for designing clothing and footwear.
The entire computer network is permanently linked to internet, including by wireless connection.
The Internship&Job Opportunity Office sets up internships (when courses require it) for all Polimoda students. It also promotes the office activities in close collaboration with companies in the field and promotes meetings with students and companies in order to make internship selections.
Thanks to the Polimoda Campus Database Service, the internship office helps graduates step into the business world and companies hire qualified personnel, thus creating a balance between offer and request
An exclusive service tailored for Polimoda students
Polimoda offers a Housing service specially tailored for students away from home and intended to make finding a place to stay in Florence easier and safer.
The Institute collaborates with a range of different types of accommodation structure and with estate agents so as to respond to every type of demand on the part of the student. In practice Polimoda acts as an intermediary between the two parties, guaranteeing contacts that are immediate and transparent.
All kinds of information about housing (types of accommodation, availability, prices etc.) can be requested quickly and easily by e-mail, writing to firstname.lastname@example.org or requesting a direct contact with an estate agent during one of the many Polimoda orientation days. We guarantee that the accommodation structure contacted will reply within 48/72 hours.
