Polimoda- Villa Favard
With headquarters in Florence, the new capital of international fashion and heart of the Made in Italy production, it’s a center with the gene for Italian excellence, as well as an international vocation. Founded in 1986 as part of an initiative conceived and financed by the Cities of Florence and Prato and fashion-sector trade associations, Polimoda boast of 30 years of experience in education specialized in the Fashion and Luxury fields. Ferruccio Ferragamo, president of the same company, was appointed President of Polimoda in March 2006, enlightened entrepreneur and a name that represents the best of “Made In Italy” fashion worldwide.
From January 2016 Polimoda launches the Strategy & Vision Platform in Paris to consolidate and develop global relationships, directed by Linda Loppa, one of the best known profiles in the international fashion education scene, with over 45 years of experience in the sector. Together with Danilo Venturi, new Dean of Polimoda with a background in the luxury sector and Fashion Business & Management education, a new chapter of growth will be written in the context of a vast and more far reaching network.
Polimoda offers a wide range of didactic programs and masters providing high-level training of the major professional profiles requested by the sector, from creative to managerial and strategic professionals, in the areas of Fashion & Technology and Business & Communication. Networking and ongoing interaction with fashion companies, a team of teachers composed of professionals and experts, and flexible, high-quality training able to respond to the fast moving fashion needs, are some of the added values that guarantee the most up-to-date training to stay astride with the professional world. It is not by coincidence that 88% of Polimoda graduates find employed within 6 months after finishing their studies, and that an increasing number of ex-students hold prestigious positions in major international brands or are among the emerging new talents in the fashion field.
Events, meetings, collaboration and appointments with keynote international speakers integrate the didactic programs giving precious testimonials and stimulating debates on key subjects of the sector. Always attentive to the development of talent, Polimoda dedicates numerous initiatives and events to highlight its best students, among which the Polimoda Show, important annual appointment with final collections of the fashion designers, Business Links to promote encounters between graduating students and companies, and Polimoda Talent, scouting platform to support the best ex- students.
Two are the locations of the Institute: the historic complex of Villa Favard, headquarters of Polimoda in the heart of Florence, ideal location to host visionaries, managers and creative talents, thanks to its historic prestige and beauty as well as its strategic position and intrinsic meaning for the City. The new Polimoda Design Labs in Scandicci, inaugurated in January 2015, is the “creative” facility of Polimoda, hosting laboratories for design, sewing, knitting, fashion technology, footwear & accessories for course of the Design & Technology area.
The Polimoda Library Documentation Centre "Matteo Lanzoni" is a place of memory, inspiration and creativity.
It contains the most important international collection of monographs, periodicals, videos, look books, and antique, rare and precious materials for creative artists.
It is a different kind of library, conceived for the creative artist, for the person who treats his own mind differently (Louis I. Kahn), in other words who is able to see images not as they appear to the ordinary eye, but to see what his mind tells him to see.
The library is organised in 4 areas:
In 1994 Polimoda created a new centre for computer technology to meet the educational requirements of students, provide training for those in the clothing sector, for the teachers and students on professional training courses and to provide a point of reference for businesses and professionals in the fashion trade who wished to make use of CAD-CAM programmes.
By continually investing in the maintenance and improvement of its systems, the Technology Centre is now recognised as an educational centre of excellence for the use of new technologies in the fashion sector.
Partnerships with leading sector companies who offer their services to Polimoda enable students to work in a context which closely reflects that of production from the earliest stages.
Polimoda is the first school in Italy to use Visual Retailing 4 software for visual merchandising (from 3D graphics for window dressing to back office support) and Atelier98 for retail management (from accounting to forecasting and business intelligence) in addition to CAD software for designing clothing and footwear.
The entire computer network is permanently linked to internet, including by wireless connection.
The Internship&Job Opportunity Office sets up internships (when courses require it) for all Polimoda students. It also promotes the office activities in close collaboration with companies in the field and promotes meetings with students and companies in order to make internship selections.
Thanks to the Polimoda Campus Database Service, the internship office helps graduates step into the business world and companies hire qualified personnel, thus creating a balance between offer and request
