Mälardalen University (abbreviated MDH) is one of Sweden’s large institutes of higher education. The University has over 14,000 students studying our 52 programmes and 1,000 courses, and almost 900 faculty and staff. MDH is characterised by close partnerships with businesses and the public sector in the region, making our University attractive to students - and our students attractive on the labour market.

About

History

MDH was founded in 1977 to meet the region´s need for research and education. The University is situated in the densely populated and expansive region around Lake Mälaren, about one hour by train from Stockholm and Uppsala.

Education

All our international programmes are taught completely in English.

The programmes cover a variety of subject areas and are strongly interrelated with the research environments of the university.

You can expect education of very high quality and you will have close contact with your teachers and fellow students. Research

At MDH, we carry out qualified research within six major research areas. Embedded Systems is actually considered cutting-edge both nationally and internationally. We focus on research that generates useful solutions for the development of society and offer research studies in Engineering and Technology as well as Health and Welfare. Housing services

Moving to a new country is a big step, but one thing that you don't have to worry about is where to live. Our cooperation in this area makes finding an accommodation easy!

Although Mälardalen University does not have any apartments of its own, we cooperate closely with the accommodation agencies in Eskilstuna and Västerås and inform them about admitted students.

The majority of our programmes and courses in English are given at Campus Västerås and many of the teachers/professors/faculty members you will encounter during your studies at MDH are based there. This in combination with the active international student association makes most international students choose to stay in Västerås.

Library services

Via your library account you can keep an eye on your due dates, renew loans and check your reservations.

The aim of the library is to support the university in maintaining a supreme international level of quality in the fields of education and research. The library is a resource to students, as well as to researchers, teachers and other staff and is also open to the public.

As a registered student at Mälardalen University, you have access to a number of different computer rooms, depending on the School in which you are registered.

Student Life

Campus life

The campus in Eskilstuna is situated at five minutes walk from the central station, and, if possible, even closer to the city center with its large choice of restaurants, cafés and nightlife. This means that you never have to feel isolated at the university; you only have to step into the pedestrian street outside.

The campus in Västerås is situated at just a 15-minute walk from the central station, in between the vibrant city life and possible leisure time activities. In one direction is the old town and the cathedral, and a stones throw away in the other direction is the Rocklunda sports centre, with several arenas and sports fields.

Sports facilities

Are you a great athlete, or do you just like to exercise a little? The Student Sports Associations in Eskilstuna and Västerås provide you with plenty of opportunities for an active lifestyle.

ELSA - Eskilstuna Lagom Sportiga Akademiker

ELSA is the association in Eskilstuna. Literally translated, ELSA stands for Eskilstuna Just Sporty Enough Academics. We are an association that works for improved health among students.

Mälardalens Student Sport - Västerås

Mälardalens Student Sport is a sports association created by students from Mälardalen University in Västerås. We arrange training in floorball, soccer, volleyball, running etc.

Student clubs

The student association for students of Business Administration and of International Business Management at MDH in Västerås is called Mälekon. The association works to facilitate and improve your period of studies and your social life as a student.

Accreditation

MDH is in the middle of a process of applying for EPAS accreditation for the International Business Management programme and the Master's.
