About

History

A.B. Barret and Charles Roberson were on their way to a gospel meeting when Barret first said to Roberson, "Let's build a school in West Texas." In 1905, Barret, a teacher at Southwestern Christian College in Denton, struck an agreement with Col. J.W. Childers, a leader in the Abilene church, to buy land from him at a reduced price on the condition that the school would be named in his honor.

Education

Our faith-based education goes beyond academics. ACU’s residential campus offers students a safe place to grow intellectually and spiritually — and to learn to live independently. Division I athletics, intramural sports, 100+ student organizations, and countless service and worship opportunities contribute to our vibrant student life.

Research

At ACU, Christianity is woven into the classroom and campus activities. Students are challenged intellectually while developing spiritually; this prepares our graduates to bring the principles of Christ into their profession, to make sound decisions based on core beliefs and values, and to show kindness and compassion toward others in the workplace.

Our faculty of Christian scholars and professionals are passionate stewards of their discipline - and their faith. They provide a safe space for students to ask questions and engage in conversations that enrich their lives.
