The College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology is a national leader in the research and creation of real-world computing breakthroughs. Ranked as a Top 10 computer science program by U.S. News and World Report, the College’s unconventional approach to education is pioneering a new era of computing and creating a global community through graduate-level online learning opportunities.

About

Accredited. Affordable. Accessible.

The Georgia Institute of Technology, Udacity, and AT&T have teamed up to offer the first accredited Master of Science in Computer Science that students can earn exclusively through the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) delivery format and for a fraction of the cost of traditional, on-campus programs.

This collaboration – informally dubbed “OMS CS” – brings together leaders in education, MOOCs, and industry to apply the disruptive power of massively open online learning to widen the pipeline of high-quality, educated talent needed in computer science.

Since the launch of the program in Spring 2014, the OMS CS global community has grown to encompass thousands of enrolled students. Eighteen courses have been produced, and the College of Computing is in the process of producing a dozen more.

In December 2015, the program successfully produced its first graduates. OMS CS provides opportunities for a diverse range of computer scientists, offering specializations in Computational Perception & Robotics, Computing Systems, Interactive Intelligence, and Machine Learning. Led by world-class faculty from Georgia Tech and fueled by passionate graduate students from more than 80 countries around the world, this program provides a master’s experience unlike any other.

Whether you are a working professional or simply someone who wants to learn more about this revolutionary program, we encourage you to explore the Georgia Tech OMS CS: the best computing education in the world, now available to the world.

Services

Georgia Tech’s OMS CS program may be entirely online, but we strive to provide students with services and support comparable to our residential students. The College of Computing has academic advisors dedicated to the program, and we are also ramping up our career development services for this growing online population. Each OMS CS course employs teaching assistants at an average ratio of one TA per 40 students, and each course also features online discussion forums, where questions are typically answered accurately within minutes—often by fellow students!

Though this is not required, all OMS CS students are welcome to visit our main campus in Atlanta and obtain a “BuzzCard” (the official Georgia Tech student ID), which entitles them to a range of services and resources on campus. The College of Computing also occasionally sponsors scholarships for OMS CS students to attend conferences such as the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing.

Student Life

One of the defining characteristics of OMS CS is the vibrant, virtual student community.

When the program launched in Spring 2014, some questioned the programs ability to foster a sense of community amongst the online student body.

Today, with a student-run Google+ community of 3,068 members and growing, as well as more than 50 sub-communities based on location, career, and interests, and regular city-wide meet-ups planned by these students, the strength of the OMS CS community has become a beacon and example of how vibrant a virtual student body can be.
