About

History

The University of Wyoming was founded in 1886, when Wyoming was still a territory. In September 1887, UW opened its doors to 42 students and five faculty members–as befitted the university of "The Equality State" both the students and faculty included women from the first day.

Education

The university is a hub of cultural events in Laramie. It offers a variety of performing arts events, ranging from rock concerts in the Arena Auditorium to classical concerts and performances by the university's theater and dance department at the Fine Arts Center. Wyoming also boasts a competitive athletic program, one which annually challenges for conference and national championships. University of Wyoming offers many extracurricular activities, including over 200 student clubs and organizations that include a wide range of social, professional and academic groups. The Wyoming Union is the hub of the campus, with the University Store and numerous student facilities.

Research

The University of Wyoming is one of the nation’s comprehensive public research universities with a growing portfolio of research and scholarly activity in a variety of disciplines. UW offers exceptional opportunities for individualized undergraduate and graduate research. Through steady increases in the number of its outstanding faculty and through significant, ongoing investments in state-of-the-art research facilities, UW contributes strongly to the creation and broadening of knowledge through research and creative work.

Career

The University of Wyoming offers an employee assistance program, that provides benefited employees and their household members with professional counseling, as well as legal and financial assistance.

The Human Resources Department's mission is to serve as the primary human resources unit for the University of Wyoming providing and continuously improving services for employees, students, retirees, applicants, departments and external agencies; thus enabling the University to serve the people of the State of Wyoming.

Services

Student services

Common help desk and related computer issues will be answered by the Help Desk during published business and expanded hours. General questions will be recorded in IT's call logging system and assigned to the Help Desk. An agent will respond during regularly scheduled hours of operation. After normal business hours, emergency system and network outages will be received, logged, and IT personnel will be notified. IT will analyze the events and begin a course of action to restore operations to a normal status.

Housing services

UW provides the opportunities and resources of a large university with the personal touch and community of a small campus. UW offers more than 200 clubs and organizations, 19 club sport teams, 45 intramural sports, Half Acre recreation facility, Outdoor Programs, and National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) courses.

Library services

The University of Wyoming Libraries are centers of discovery and learning where students conduct research to develop skills for life long learning. Faculty depend upon library collections to support their research and keep current with developments within their field. Librarians teach students how to locate, evaluate, and integrate information within their studies.

ICT services

ResNet is The Residence Hall Network and provides network access in dorm rooms, and some WiFi access.

The Information Technology Service Center and ResNet are services that Information Technology provides to help students, faculty, and staff with personal computers and mobile devices.

Medical services

Student Health Service is available for emergencies as well as for more routine medical situations. Some of the treatment services that Student Health offers are:

Residence Life & Dining Services believes that on-campus living and dining is an essential component of your education, personal growth, and college experience. It provides high-quality, nutritious foods to help students to excel.

Transit & Parking Services provides several distinct transportation systems.

Sports facilities

The purpose of the University of Wyoming Club Sports Program is to provide students the opportunity to participate in competitive sport clubs against intercollegiate teams, with an emphasis on student leadership, development, and involvement. The 21 Club Sports represent the University of Wyoming while competing regionally, and even nationally. Each club team is a Recognized Student Organizations that is affiliated with the Campus Recreation Department. The teams are administered by students under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation Programs and the Club Sports Coordinator.

Student clubs

A student organization is exactly what it says: An organization composed of and run by students. Aside from this, student organizations widely vary in their size, mission, and purpose. A group of people getting togetherto watch a movie is just as valid as a group that gets together to clean up Prexy's Pasture. The purpose of recognizing student organizations at the University of Wyoming is to provide an opportunity for students to exercise their right to freely associate for a common purpose.

Accreditation

The University of Wyoming has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission continuously since 1923. Following the completion of its self-study, the University hosted its last Higher Learning Commission site review team and received continued accreditation in 2009-2010. The Universitys next scheduled comprehensive review from the Higher Learning Commission will be in 2019-2020.
