About

History

The University of Notre Dame Australia was founded through an Act of the Parliament of Western Australia in December 1989. Since its inception, Notre Dame has become a leader in higher education and now boasts over 11,000 students enrolled across its three campuses in Fremantle, Sydney and Broome.

Education

As a Catholic university committed to providing excellent pastoral care, you will receive a personalised educational experience in an environment which encourages you to grow and develop in all aspects of your life. You will benefit from individualised academic and support programs, study abroad opportunities, volunteering, sporting and cultural activities. Our deliberately small lecture and tutorial sizes mean that your lecturers and fellow students will get to know you as an individual.

Research

Notre Dame’s current strategic focus is its three research entities, the Institute for Health Research, Nulungu Research Institute and the Institute for Ethics and Society. Emphasis is on collaboration, translational research and growing its higher degree by research student population. Initiatives include University fee remission scholarships for international research students and University stipend scholarships for domestic and international research students. Notre Dame has established three dedicated centres for research:

Student services

Student Services at The University of Notre Dame Australia provides opportunities for students to participate in life changing experiences while studying at the University. Student leadership roles on the Student Association, starting or being involved in student clubs, sports and recreation activities at a social, state and national level, orientation and study abroad are some of the many activities that make student life so vibrant.

Student Services staff at Notre Dame provide a range of services to deliver an excellent standard of pastoral support for students and to ensure that students enjoy being part of the unique community that is Notre Dame.

Housing services

The accommodation is a diverse, multicultural community which is a safe, friendly place to live. The University of Notre Dame Australia welcomes your interest in the student accommodation offered on our Fremantle Campus. Our residences can provide a vibrant and fun place to live while you study at Notre Dame. The accommodation is ideally suited to people who are comfortable living in a community which is a blend of enthusiastic Study Abroad students (mainly from America), as well as students from around the world and Australia.

Library services

The Fremantle Campus has three libraries; Craven Law Library, Galvin Medical Library and St Teresa's Library. The Library also offers a range of support services; IT support, group study rooms and library skills workshops.

Student Life

Campus life

The Fremantle Campus is located in the historic West End of Fremantle. The beautiful buildings of both the Campus and the surrounding city of Fremantle lend a distinctive character to Notre Dame. Supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, beautiful beaches and sport and recreation facilities are within walking distance or are easily accessible by public transport.

Student clubs

Notre Dame students are represented by the Notre Dame Student Association.

Students are also welcome to join other clubs and associations at the University.
