Hartpury College and University Centre is one of the UK’s leading land-based and sports educational establishments. The campus covers over 360 hectares and is located near to both Gloucester and Cheltenham.

About

History

The college was established after World War 2 as an agricultural education centre with 50 students.It remained relatively unchanged until 1990, when a new principal initiated a rapid expansion programme, starting with the provision of a larger variety of further education courses

Education

Hartpury is currently an Associate Faculty of the University of the West of England (UWE) and has been working in partnership with UWE since 1997. Today it has more than 1500 students working towards foundation degrees, honours degrees and postgraduate qualifications in equine, sport and animal and land studies. Hartpury also offers A Levels and BTEC Diplomas to over 1600 full time students, as well as short courses in leadership and management, teaching and training, animal care, dog grooming, equine studies, land based studies, first aid and health and safety.

Research

Research, scholarship and practice are central to what we do at Hartpury and feature prominently in our Higher Education Strategy. Following our last institutional review by the QAA in 2011, the culture of research and scholarly activities that exist at Hartpury were highlighted as a key area of good practice. This commitment to research and scholarly activity remains an important institutional focus.

Student services

Hartpury is one of the world’s largest equine education facilities and also regularly wins national titles in rugby and football as well as rowing, golf and netball. Hartpury was awarded ‘Outstanding’ for residential students in 2012 by Ofsted.

Library services

Hartpury College Learning Resource Centres are centrally placed within the campus to provide students and staff with support for their teaching and learning. We hold a wide range of books and journals, magazines, DVD and electronic resources. We also have friendly, knowledgeable staff to help with queries as well as PCs, laptop and wifi connections in our study spaces to support your studies.

Medical services

Whatever your query or need, experienced advisers can help address your health and wellbeing needs. We are always concerned about your health, safety and wellbeing as each of these can have an impact on your academic progress. We have a full-time college nurse, we also provide up-to-date information on health-related matters and have a sexual health clinic on site.

Sports facilities

Hartpury’s multi-million pound sports facilities offer elite athletes the perfect place to train and develop. Students involved in all nine academies will find professional style training environments designed to push athletes to their full potential.

Student clubs

Further Education students are automatically members of the Hartpury Students’ Union (HSU) and can get involved in the clubs, societies and events that the HSU organise. You can start your own club or society too if your interest isn’t covered – just let the SU know!

Accreditation

Just last year Hartpury was further recognised by the QAA (Quality Assurance Agency) – the independent body responsible for monitoring standards and quality in higher education. In its July 2014 report, QAA commended everything from the first-rate learning opportunities and teaching at Hartpury to listening to and acting on the student voice whilst also boosting career prospects.
