Established in 1956, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has over 50 years of experience in providing broad-based and creativity-inspiring education. At HKBU, education is far more than simply equipping students with professional knowledge and skills. In 1956, Hong Kong Baptist College was founded by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong as a post-secondary college committed to the provision of whole person education. In 1983, Hong Kong Baptist College became a fully-funded public tertiary institution. It gained university status in 1994 and was renamed Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).


Today HKBU encompasses eight Faculties/Schools offering a range of undergraduate programmes, associate degree and higher diploma programmes as well as taught postgraduate programmes and research postgraduate programmes leading to the award of master and doctoral degrees.

It prides itself on its dual focus on teaching and research and encourages service to society among its staff and students.

Over the years, HKBU has remained committed to academic excellence and the development of the whole person, and has gained a reputation as one of Asia’s finest institutions of higher learning.


  • While research at HKBU spans a broad range of areas, under Vision 2020, the University’s 10-year development plan, HKBU aims to focus on innovative research that is internationally competitive, support teaching and learning and has the potential to have a significant impact on society. In particular, the University encourages interdisciplinary research and theme-based research.
  • Encompassing HKBU’s research strengths, the four focus areas of research under Vision 2020 are health, environment, Chinese and China studies, and cross-cultural studies.

  • Kai Tak Campus - The former Royal Air Force (RAF) Officers’ Mess, a Grade I historical building with a unique early 20th century colonial architectural style, houses the Academy of Visual Arts, providing an inspiring backdrop to complement the student experience.
  • Shek Mun Campus - The College of International Education and the HKBU Affiliated Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School are located at the Shek Mun Campus.
