Founded in 1920 on the campus of Yale University in cooperation with Northeastern University, UNH moved to its current West Haven campus in 1960 and opened its Orange Campus in January, 2014. The University operates a satellite campus in Tuscany, Italy, and offers programs at several locations throughout Connecticut and in New Mexico.

UNH provides its students with a unique combination of a solid liberal arts education and real-world, hands-on career and research opportunities.The University enrolls approximately 6,500 students, including nearly 1,600 graduate students and more than 4,800 undergraduates the majority of whom reside in University housing. Through its College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, College of Lifelong & eLearning, Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and Tagliatela College of Engineering, UNH offers 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. UNH students have access to more than 400 study abroad programs worldwide and its student-athletes compete in 16 varsity sports in the NCAA Division IIs highly competitive Northeast-10 Conference.

The creation of the University Research Scholar classification came about during the 2006-2007 academic calendar year. This appointment is for a three-year term. It is intended to recognize scholars for their special contributions to the university and their academic disciplines.
Student Programs
UNHs Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows program is designed to engage students in the experience of applied research under the direct tutelage and mentorship of a faculty member. The full process involves students crafting a research proposal, conducting a research project, and preparation and presentation of results in written and oral-presentation form at a research fair. The program supports student engagement, experiential learning, persistence and mentoring.
Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs
The OGSP offers support to UNH researchers as they seek external support for individual and collaborative research, curriculum development, and other institutional programming activities. The office can provide assistance with the identification of potential funding opportunities, the development and submission of proposals to funding agencies, and the administration and implementation of externally-funded research projects.
