California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) offers high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs advancing the intellectual and personal development of its students.

The 375-acre campus has four schools:

  • Arts & Humanities (AH)
  • Business and Public Administration (BPA)
  • Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering (NSME)
  • Social Sciences and Education (SSE)


CSUB prepares students to succeed in challenging and rewarding careers in a wide range of fields. Many departments offer internships that give students practical, real-world experience. Housing services

The California State University, Bakersfield Office of Student Housing and Residence Life is committed to the academic success of its students as well as their intellectual and personal development. This is accomplished by providing a safe, clean, and community centered environment where students can live and learn. Our core priorities are academics, individual growth and development, and housing program expansion.

Library services

The Walter W. Stiern Library opened in 1994 and is the largest building on the California State University, Bakersfield campus. The 150,000 square-foot building houses nearly half a million volumes and provides electronic access to more than 34,000 periodical titles via its hundreds of computer terminals.

ICT services

Our campus offers wireless networking in most areas on campus. All network users must abide by the CSUB Acceptable Use Policy.

Medical services

  • Necessary to have insurance.

F-1 visa students are subject to minimum health insurance requirements established by the California State University Chancellor's Office. An insurance policy that exceeds these requirements is available for purchase from the Office of International Students & Programs (ISP) or online. Dental and Vision insurance are optional.

Student Life

Campus life

California State University, Bakersfield is a continuously growing comprehensive regional university that is committed to transforming the lives of its students and community through its established excellence in academia, diversity, service, and community engagement.

Students at CSU Bakersfield take school seriously, but there’s also plenty of time to enjoy student life on and around campus. CSUB features a state-of-the-art student recreation center, over 85 student organizations and clubs, and 11 fraternities and sororities. Students also enjoy Roadrunner NCAA Division I sporting events, on-campus performances, and plenty of dining and entertainment options in the city of Bakersfield.

Sports facilities

SUB competes in both the Wester Athletic Conference and NCAA Division I athletics and fields teams in the following sports:

  • Men: Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Soccer, Swimming, Track and Field, Wrestling
  • Women: Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Track and Field, Volleyball, Water Polo and Sand Volleyball.

Student clubs

The CSUB Office of Student Involvement enhances the quality of the student experience through supporting student clubs and organizations, creating and promoting involvement opportunities for all students, and encouraging active participation in the student learning process.

Students who become involved in campus clubs and organizations gain valuable life skills. They learn how to facilitate meetings, motivate people, reconcile conflicts, manage money and budgets, plan programs, and speak in public settings. We are here to support student organization officers and help them become effective leaders within the campus community.
