Founded by the Texas Legislature in 1969.

In 1973 Peter T. Flawn was appointed UTSA's second president. By this time, more than 670 students had enrolled in graduate level courses taught by 52 faculty members.


The UTSA vision is to become a premier research institution. Our mission is to promote research as an academic enhancement for UTSA students, build the University’s reputation for research excellence, and reach out to industry and government to expand the research funding available. By achieving a 253% increase in research funding over the past 10 years, UTSA’s university research is making significant progress in meeting those goals.

Student services

The UTSA University Center Information Center is located on the first floor of the University Center North, outside the UTSA Bookstore, and strives to provide first class service to our campus community and visitors. We are available to answer questions and assist with directions, as well as provide a variety of services and resources.

Housing services

At the beginning of every semester students registered with SDS may request a letter for each of their classes that verifies the disability and appropriate accommodations. The student hand delivers the letter to the instructor, giving the student an opportunity to discuss the nature of the disability and any needs related to that class.

Library services

The library offers a rich blend of resources to support academic work including research assistance, printed materials, electronic books and articles, and computers and other technology. Library Collections

Medical services

We provide medical evaluations for minor injuries or illnesses. Our team is staffed with licensed medical professionals to treat common medical problems. We offer personalized health care for current-registered students. Our medical services include:

Campus life

The University of Texas at San Antonio Recreation Wellness Center is nearly 185,000 square feet of indoor recreation space and houses a wide variety of programs and facilities including: multi-use courts, a demonstration kitchen, massage studio, an aquatics center, racquetball courts, fitness areas, group exercise studios and locker/shower rooms.

Sports facilities

The fitness programs and services at UTSA Campus Rec provide students and members opportunities to participate in a wide variety of activities. Our programs are developed to encourage healthy lifestyles in a fun and a stress-free environment. Take advantage of our many programs that are free of charge as well as our resonably priced Personal Training and Massage Therapy programs.

With more than 330 student organizations on campus, students have plenty of opportunities to give back to the community, make friends and live the Rowdy life.
