About

History

Since its inception more than 165 years ago, the University of Tennessee Alumni Association has been known for its outstanding service to its more than 335,000 members world-wide. By completing at least 24 semester hours (or their equivalent) at any UT campus, you are automatically a member of the UTAA.

Education

The mission of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is to bring the benefits of the health sciences to the achievement and maintenance of human health, with a focus on the citizens of Tennessee and the region, by pursuing an integrated program of education, research, clinical care, and public service.

Research

The Office of Grants and Research Agreements (GRA) provides support to the faculty and staff of UTHSC (including components at the UT Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville and the Chattanooga unit of the College of Medicine) in their efforts to obtain external funding for research and other sponsored projects, while ensuring compliance with UT policy, sponsor policy and applicable law. Specifically, the office reviews, negotiates, and approves all proposals for grants and research agreement;

Student services

The Office of Student Life is located in Room 300 of the Student Alumni Center (commonly known as the SAC) at 800 Madison Avenue. The SGAEC also maintains an office there.

Housing services

As a public institution that receives federal funding, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is required to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Se3ction 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Health Science Center, pursuant to HR0220 – Equal Employment Opportunity policy is committed to providing a campus and educational experience that is accessible to all.

Library services

Effective August 1, 2017 UTHSC Health Sciences Library will institute a revised schedule of staffed hours for the 2017-18 academic year. As always, UTHSC Library is accessible 24/7/365 for student use and these changes will not impact access to the Library space.

ICT services

ITS provides computing and printing services for students in the General Education Building rmB110 and in the Student Alumni Center rm314. The ITS department wants this to be an effective and efficient study environment for all of our student body.

Medical services

West Tennessee Healthcare is a public, non-for-profit hospital that is self-supporting and operates without any tax support. Modern Healthcare magazine listed West Tennessee Healthcare as one of the top ten largest public, not-for-profit healthcare systems in the U.S.

Student Life

Campus life

Located in the heart of the Memphis Medical District, the Office of Admissions welcomes visitors for the opportunity to get a firsthand view of our university. The Office of Student Affairs and Enrollments Services invites you to schedule a tour to learn more about the numerous programs offered at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Sports facilities

The fitness center gymnasium, racquetball courts, ping pong tables and climbing wall will be closed July 22 – 24 (Tues – Thurs) for renovations. The main doors of the fitness center will also be closed. Entry to the fitness center will be through the SAC doors and check in is at Desk 2. We are working to improve our facilities. Student clubs

The Office of Student Life works with student organization advisors and the SGAEC to serve as a liaison for UTHSC student organizations. All official UTHSC student organizations must be approved by the SGAEC, and provide an updated list of student organization officers and advisor(s) to the Office of Student Life annually.

Accreditation

Since 1897, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been continuously accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees.
