The university is contributing continuously in the economical and cultural advancement of Germanys Northwest region. It has a close cooperation with University of Bremen. Its specialty is in interdisciplinary studies. In 2004, 2400 student studied there. It had 12000 students in 2006. And the university introduced Bachelor-Master degrees in 2004. There are 80 courses for the students. The faculties are: Educational and social sciences, Computer science, economics and law, Language and cultural studies, Humanities and social sciences, Mathematics and natural sciences, Medical and health sciences.

History

University of Oldenburg is named after Carl von Ossietzky. It was established in 1973 in order to show the sciences responsibility towards the society.

The pathways on the Oldenburg campus are short: the Universitys academic staff and administrative staff work closely together, using an interdisciplinary approach.
