Education

The American University of Beirut has long been admired for the strength and breadth of its academic programs and its commitment to a broad-based liberal arts education. All entering undergraduate students are required to complete a number of general education courses that provide them with the opportunity to explore many different disciplines. The University’s Faculties of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Health Sciences, Medicine (which includes the Rafic Hariri School of Nursing), and the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business offer more than 120 undergraduate and graduate programs.

Services

Student services

AUB students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as the arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, theater, music), the student newspaper, the AUB Choir, athletics, student government, student clubs—and much more. Although activities take place throughout the 64-acre campus, the focus of student activity at AUB is West Hall area and the Charles W. Hostler Student Center.

Housing services

AUB offers its students the opportunity to live in its residence halls and share a rich community life on its beautiful campus. AUB provides quality housing facilities and services to ensure a wholesome living environment that enables students to thrive personally and academically.

Library services

The Bookstore services are available to AUB students, faculty, staff, and alumni to facilitate their procurement of local and foreign books, teaching materials, and paraphernalia. The responsibility for implementing this policy and procedures is entrusted to the director of auxiliary services. The Bookstore is considered a section of the Auxiliary Services Department.

Accreditation

The American University of Beirut (AUB) operates under a charter granted by the Education Department of the State of New York in 1863, which registers the Universitys degree programs. AUB degrees are also recognized by the Lebanese government through the equivalence committees of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
