Education

Western Michigan University (WMU) combines the resources of a major research university with the personal attention and friendly atmosphere often found at a small college. Taking full advantage of that combination gives students the edge they need to succeed in graduate school, the workplace and life.

The University offers 147 bachelorís, 73 masterís and 30 doctoral programs. These programs are offered through seven degree-granting colleges: arts and sciences, aviation, education and human development, engineering and applied sciences, fine arts, Haworth College of Business, and health and human services.

With nearly 24,000 students, a quarter of whom are graduate students, Western Michigan University ranks among the top 50 largest colleges and universities in the United States. It also ranks among the top 100 national public doctoral universities and among the nation's top 100 most wired institutions. A student-centered research university, WMU offers advanced degrees in 65 areas of study, including 30 doctoral programs. University library holdings total more than 5 million items; the science reference collection contains sources in biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics and all areas of medicine and engineering.

Campus life

WMUís campuses encompass 1,289 acres and 167 buildings (including utilities structures), and feature some of the finest facilities in the Midwest. Main campusóLocated in Kalamazoo just west of the downtown, the main campus is home to most of WMUís academic programs, campus services, residence halls and other facilities. It consists of three formally named campuses, all adjoining: the East, Oakland Drive and West campuses.

Sports facilities

The Student Recreation Center offers quality facilities and fitness programs for students and staff. The University Recreation office promotes healthy lifestyle choices, team building, leadership skills and opportunities for positive social interaction. Options include:
