Satakunta University of Applied Sciences is a limited liability company, which is owned by the municipalities and local business organizations. SAMK’s operations is managed by the President–Managing Director and two Vice Presidents, one of whom is in charge of education and the other in charge of research, development and innovation activities and business services. Each faculty has a Dean in charge of its operations.

Student services

Each international student at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) is introduced to a student tutor right at the beginning of studies. A student tutor is a fellow student, who has volunteered to help new students with practical matters concerning the studies and with life in the new country and city. In most cases the incoming international students will get a message from their tutor student already before arriving to Satakunta.

Housing services

There are several student houses available for the students of the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences in Pori. All rooms are furnished with bed, table and chair. Any additional commodities like bed linen, towels and kitchenware have to be brought or bought by the student himself. Students on Rauma Campus will search their accommodation from private markets. Information about available housing options will be provided by their International Secretary. They will be given several options to choose from and the rent varies according to the size, location and facilities of the chosen apartment.

Library services

You can borrow materials from all campus libraries with the free SAMK Library card. Renew online in Finna or in the library. Return your loans to any campus library. You can get a library card from the library the first time you take out a loan. You should have an official ID card with you. The library card is your personal property and you are responsible for items borrowed with the card.

ICT services

When starting studies, each student will get a personal access code for intranet, e-mail and computer systems. Each student will get free secured hard disk space for saving documents. This space is solely at the student’s disposal. It is also possible to save documents to the general hard disk space which everyone with access codes is entitled to.

Medical services

Student health care services are intended for full-time students irrespective of their domicile. Fees will be collected in accordance with the decrees. The services of the public health nurse are available to all students.

We are operating on the west coast of Finland. The region is called Satakunta, and our biggest city is Pori.

Sports facilities

Rauma Campus: The campus has one sports hall, for which reservations can be made in the Sports Department of the City of Rauma. Tiedepuisto Campus: Gym Sportium at the Campus - Open at all times, with only a few exceptions. Personnel’s turn on Mondays and Thursdays at 15.30-17. The gym and closets have to be empty between 10-10.30 for daily cleaning. Visitors of the gym should register themselves on the gym’s computer when entering and leaving, as the number of visitors is followed through the computer system.

Student clubs

Satakunnan ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijakunta (SAMMAKKO) is the student union for all the students enrolled at SAMK. SAMMAKKO is a member of the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applies Sciences (SAMOK). The purpose of the student union is to help students with matters related to studying and student life. In each school, there is a student association present.
