With 11 colleges and schools covering subjects from the humanities to math, science and technology to education and health, ETSU provides extensive opportunities for learning and growth. Within these colleges and schools, there are departments offering 140 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs, as well as honors experiences available to a broad spectrum of students in all fields of study. About

History

In 1911 East Tennessee State Normal School opens, 29 students register first day; two courses of study offered, a four-year high school curriculum and a two-year normal school curriculum. Normal School consisted of the departments of education, English, history, science, languages, industrial training, agriculture, and the training school.

Education

Founded in 1911 (as East Tennessee State Normal School), East Tennessee State University serves over 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. ETSU has eleven colleges and schools, including health sciences, liberal arts, education and business & technology.

Housing services

Each student has his/her own unique needs when it comes to where he/she lives, so we are proud to offer a large variety of living environments with varying amenities at different price points.

From the traditional residence halls to two-bedroom apartments, we have a living option to fit almost any need with the convenience of having all utilities included.

Our all-inclusive rent is billed once per semester to your student account, and in most cases can be paid with financial aid. Housing agreements are a two-semester commitment, with spring- and/or summer-only agreements available

Sports facilities

The Mountain States Health Alliance Athletics Center is the most notable figure along the Johnson City skyline. A multi-sport facility completed in 1977.

The 4.5-acre complex contains multiple basketball courts, six tennis courts, three racquetball courts, indoor batting cages, a rifle range, a full-size indoor track, numerous locker rooms, facilities for weight training and athletic training, a sports medicine rehab clinic, and a physical education research laboratory.

Accreditation

The college's business administration programs are fully accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Additionally, both the undergraduate and graduate accounting programs have a separate AACSB International accounting accreditation.
