About

History

The year 2013 will mark the University of Windsor's 50th anniversary as a public institution, but the story of our university actually began with its founding in September of 1857, when the first students arrived to study at its predecessor, Assumption College.

Education

As a mid-size university supporting 16,000 students, UWindsor provides a broad range of academic opportunities. As an undergraduate or graduate student, you can choose from over 120 majors and minors and 55 master's and doctoral degrees in subjects like Engineering, Forensics and Business.

Student services

The student experience at the University of Windsor really is unique. One of our key defining features is the degree to which we provide international engagement for all those who choose to study at Windsor.

Our students engage with others around the world through:

Housing services

Our residence halls are conveniently located throughout the campus where it's only a short walk to food outlets, recreational facilities, library, Registrars, Bookstore, student centre and banks. Bedrooms are furnished so there’s no need to purchase items such as a bed, desk, lamp or chairs. If you choose to live off campus, the University of Windsor Students Alliance maintains a list of off-campus housing.

There are 4 Residence buildings each with its own unique characteristics. You will enjoy short walks to class, to food outlets, to recreational facilities, to the library, to the Bookstore, to the student centre and to banks.

The Leddy Library is the main Library for the University of Windsor campus.

Medical services

The clinic at Student Health Services is a medical practice. The clinic can take care of all your health care needs providing confidential, student-centred health care, including comprehensive medical care, counselling, and referrals.

Even if you opt out of the student drug plan you are still welcome to see our dedicated team of physicians, nurses and administrive staff.

Campus life

Class is out and your day is just beginning.

Head over to The Forge, our brand-new fitness center for a quick workout or Pilates class. Grab lunch with friends at the Marketplace (Baja shrimp tacos or the curry lamb stew?). Take your laptop outside and log on to Blackboard over our high-speed wireless campus network. Then it's off to your two-hour DJ gig at CJAM Radio. And don't forget Bhangra Club practice!

This is student life at the University of Windsor. In our residence halls and restaurants, you'll bond with new friends from around the world. You'll bring your best game to our top-notch athletics facilities. And don't worry if you join a few too many clubs and student organizations.

Sports facilities

TheCampus Recreation program incorporates a number of health and fitness activities, from ballroom dancing to martial arts, cardio and aerobic workouts to intramural sports. It will enrich your University experience and foster a lifetime of wellness.

The St. Denis Athletic and Community Centre is the home turf of the Windsor Lancers athletic teams and the best place on campus to break a sweat.

The Forge is the university's brand-new, fully stocked student fitness center. Choose from 31 cardio machines, 24 weight training machines, tons of free weights, personal training sessions and awesome group classes like Salsa cardio, deep water aquafitness, sculpting Pilates and Tai Chi.

Student clubs

There are over 100 student clubs, organizations, academic societies and Greek societies at the University of Windsor. There's literally something for everyone: Pro Bono Students Canada, Hip Hop Club, Engineers Without Borders, Music Society, the Concrete Canoe Team, Gamers' Republic—the list goes on (and on).
