Toyohashi University of Technology (Toyohashi Tech) was established in 1976 to respond to the societal need to foster practical, creative engineers and cultivate qualified individuals who would show initiative and display leadership abilities. With this guiding philosophy, Toyohashi Tech focused largely on recruiting graduates of technical colleges.

Housing services

In Toyohashi Tech campus, we have International House with 50 rooms for newly arrived short-term students from partner universities, and Japanese government scholarship students, and we also have Student Dormitories with 499 rooms where both Japanese and international students are able to stay.

The cost of living in the university residences is 20,000 - 30,000 yen per month (including energy charges).

The private apartments are expensive, comparing to the university residence. The cost is approximately 30,000 - 50,000 yen per month. Of course you can find much cheaper apartment and luxury apartment in Toyohashi.

Library services

University Library with 180,000 books offers 24 hours, 7days a week services for all students, and it also provides accesses to most major database and bibliography with own searching systems, as well as online access to Japanese governmental papers and other major databases.

Medical services

All international students are required to join Japanese National Health Insurance. You will get 70% reduction of your medical cost with this insurance. You need to make monthly payment, but students can receive discount. National Health Insurance can cover dental care and pre-existing/chronic conditions.

Campus life

In Toyohashi University of Technology, there are various students circles, and some of them are famous in Japan, such as TUT ROBOCON Team, which won Japanese championship in 2009 and 2008, and second prize in 2010.

Sports facilities

Center for International Relations offers free Japanese language lessons for the students, researchers and their families, as well as the student counselling services.

Language Lab is fully equipped and offers a wide range of hardware facilities and software packages for the students who wish to learn Japanese and English.

We made new training gym for students in 2008, which is available for weekday. Swimming pool is available in the summer.
