History

The Technical University of Madrid (UPM) celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1996, although the majority of its centres are over hundreds of years old and were founded in the 18th and 19th centuries. Each of them maintained its independence until being grouped together to form the UPM.

Education

As set out in its statures, the Technical University of Madrid has, among its objectives, the creation, development, transmission and criticism of science, technology, and culture. To this end it also works from its Institutes and Research Centres, assimilating the changes taking place in out society and maintaining its vocation for excellence, which is why it has both national and international recognition. The Technical University of Madrid holds double recognition as a Campus of International Excellence, a distinction that refers to the quality of its research and teaching activity.

Research

UPM researchers take part in the world largest study about obesity that points out that this disease already affects to one over 10 men and one over 7 women in the world.

UPM researchers have developed an emulator that estimates the power fluctuation of a set of photovoltaic plants within the same climatic region. This emulator will allow us a greater introduction of this renewable energy into the electric system.

Through counseling, the initial idea is shaping up to an optimal level of development

Services

Library services

The School library is located in the modern building,and was opened in 2001. The library itself has numerous spaces for both individual and group work, including three study rooms (415 reading stations), consultation rooms for theses and projects (12 seats) and several multi-purpose rooms usually used for group work.

ICT services

The School has four rooms equipped with computers free of use for students, and another five for practical classes.The entire centre is equipped with a wireless network, which can be used with a university electronic account or a special pass extended by the IT Services.

Medical services

If you have no Social Security in your home country or there is no kind of medical agreement with Spain, you will need to take out private health insurance. This must in all cases provide full health cover during your time at UPM. You may take out a policy in your country of origin or when you arrive in Spain.
