The University is a regional entity with campuses and facilities in Greater Sudbury and Barrie. It is one of the largest employers in the Greater Sudbury area and procures millions in goods and services annually, of which a large part is from businesses located in Greater Sudbury or Barrie. Through local purchasing the University fosters economic growth in its host communities.

About

History

  • In November 1960 the Board of Governors and Senate adopted blue and gold as the Laurentian team colours, rejecting the student preference for copper-red and nickel-grey, a more regionally appropriate but less eye-appealing choice.

Research

The mandate of Office of Research Services (ORS) is to support researchers with all aspects of their research activities. This mandate encompasses a broad suite of services which includes assisting researchers in every step of the pre and post research grant funding process, grant funding administration, knowledge mobilization, human participants research ethics, animal use protocols, and intellectual property management and technology transfer.

Career

The Centre is the central provider of career and employment (permanent/summer/ part-time) support services for undergraduate, graduate students and alumni from all disciplines. The Centre help students develop lifelong career management skills through a comprehensive range of accessible services to support and empower students in making informed decisions about their career and employment goals. The Centre also assists employers in recruiting students from the university.

Services

Housing services

In Sudbury, comfortable and affordable accommodations are readily available. Various types of residence and off-campus housing services are available. Convenient and healthy meal plans are available to students who chose the residence option.

ICT services

The Tech-Hub “Computer Store” is wholly-owned and operated by Laurentian University. We supply computer equipment to students, faculty, staff, departments and Colleges. Managed by the IT department, the Tech-Hub “computer Store” is conveniently located in the University Class Room Building just across from the entrance to the Class Room. Feel free to drop by during our hours of operation.

Medical services

Registered nurses and nurse practitioners are on staff during regular office hours, part time physicians are available by appointment and urgent cases are also accepted. The services are delivered on campus in the student residence complex, easily accessible to students.
