About

History

Haverford was founded in 1833 by Quakers for whom academic excellence, offered in a setting of tolerance and mutual respect, would serve a larger goal of "educating the whole person".

Education

As a core institutional principle, sustainability animates Haverford's broad mission of stewarding its financial, ethical, and curricular endowments in the interests of educating principled global citizens while safeguarding intergenerational equity as a perpetual institution. Sustainability also specifically represents an imperative of environmental consciousness and accountability that should flow through and bind the curriculum, the co-curricular programming, and the institutional practices, as was articulated in the Plan for Haverford 2020.

Research

The unique four-college exchange program with Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore and the University of Pennsylvania allows them to retain the strengths of the small college experience, while offering the expanded resources and opportunities usually found at a larger university. Haverford students can take a staggering array of classes at any of the Quaker Consortium schools.

Career

In keeping with Haverford College's long-standing policy of non-discrimination, the Board of Managers of Haverford College has established a program of affirmative action. The goal of this program is to attract and retain staff of high quality and diverse backgrounds and to do so without discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, age, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, veteran status, or other protected characteristic. In accordance with the Affirmative Action Policy, the College recruits persons in these protected categories as candidates for positions that become available at Haverford.

Haverford has experienced minimal problems to date with crime on campus. Life on any college campus, however, is subject to some of the same risks and problems as life elsewhere.

Many parents are concerned about the safety of their child on a college campus away from home. Haverford College understands that concern and accepts its responsibility to employ security measures to ensure that our students enjoy their years at Haverford as free as possible from any threats to their safety or well-being.
