About

History

The year was 1861. The American Civil War had shortly begun and the Union Army held control of Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. In May of that year, Union Major General Benjamin Butler decreed that any escaping slaves reaching Union lines would be considered "contraband of war" and would not be returned to bondage.

Student services

They have recently revamped the website to emphasize the focus on the three most important elements of the program – increasing student retention, graduation, and matriculation rates to graduate school; supporting initiatives to better inform and engage parents, corporate partners, and faculty liaisons in the effort to meet our students' needs; and creating a culture of service in the students.

They are excited that you elected to join Student Support Services (SSS), a federal TRIO Program that has been an integral part of the Hampton University community for the past 40 years.

Housing services

With a stylish mix of 20 modern and historic residence halls, living on the Hampton University grounds is as comfortable as it is fulfilling. Whether you're overlooking the Hampton River or in the middle of campus, you'll find a wide variety of spacious fully-equipped rooms to choose from. Plus, when you're living on campus, you're already close to exciting university sporting and cultural events.

Hampton University provides a variety of services to assist students as they progress in their collegiate careers–from comprehensive academic support such as tutoring and study skills training; to conflict resolution and counseling services; to on-campus housing, financial aid, and career placement assistance.

There are currently six libraries under the Hampton University library structure, four of which are located on Hampton University's main campus.

ICT services

The Center for Information Technology offices are located on the fifth floor of the William R. & Norma B. Harvey Library.

Medical services

The Health Center provides outpatient health care for Hampton University students. Health services are provided by a staff consisting of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical laboratory technician and medical office personnel who are committed to maintaining a maximum level of wellness for each member of the University community.

The comprehensive student-specific services are designed to help students meet the challenges of a rigorous university experience, enabling them to reach their fullest potential and to prepare for successful lives after they graduate.

The Office of Off-Campus Housing has prepared a property listing to assist those students who are unable to be housed on campus and those who choose to live in the surrounding communities.All students must provide the Office of Off-Campus Housing with an address as soon as suitable accommodations are acquired.
