The University of Winnipeg received its charter in 1967 but its roots date back more than 130 years. The founding colleges were Manitoba College (1871), and Wesley College (1888), which merged to form United College in 1938.

All international students at The University of Winnipeg are required to purchase International Student Health Insurance. This insurance will cover medical costs such as visiting the doctor when you are sick, injured, going to the hospital and purchasing some prescription medication. A couple of weeks after purchasing this insurance you will receive a health insurance card.

The RecPlex provides new indoor training and practice space for all Wesmen teams, in particular the soccer teams. The Wesmen Soccer teams play in the Canada West conference, one of four conferences within Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). CIS soccer games and tournaments are played outdoors during the soccer season, from late August to October.
