History

The University of Winnipeg received its charter in 1967 but its roots date back more than 130 years. The founding colleges were Manitoba College (1871), and Wesley College (1888), which merged to form United College in 1938.

Student Central is your first stop for many services: applying for admission and awards/financial aid; accessing registration materials; paying tuition; getting a Student ID card and locker; and many other transactions.

Housing services

UWinnipeg Campus Living offers various convenient room styles and meal options for individual students. Choose from furnished dorms with meal options for effortless cuisine on campus, single rooms in shared houses for communal living, and furnished and unfurnished apartments for those who prefer greater independence.

Library services

The University of Winnipeg Library is the heart of the downtown campus, providing vibrant spaces and resources for students, Faculy, and community members to pursue their academic goals. We are a vital component in supporting academic excellence. We house hundreds of thousands of books and articles, and provide access to many more online through our catalogue.

Medical services

All international students at The University of Winnipeg are required to purchase International Student Health Insurance. This insurance will cover medical costs such as visiting the doctor when you are sick, injured, going to the hospital and purchasing some prescription medication. A couple of weeks after purchasing this insurance you will receive a health insurance card.

Sports facilities

The RecPlex provides new indoor training and practice space for all Wesmen teams, in particular the soccer teams. The Wesmen Soccer teams play in the Canada West conference, one of four conferences within Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). CIS soccer games and tournaments are played outdoors during the soccer season, from late August to October.

Student clubs

The University of Winnipeg Students’ Association (UWSA) has created the International Students’ Association (ISA) to help support International students and to contribute and improve campus life. The ISA provides personal and moral support to all its members.
