As a state-accredited University of Applied Sciences, Germany, we offer a hands-on, international, and personal program of studies. BTK – University of Arts & Design is reacting to these changes by also supporting research projects, in addition to offering courses. These projects can be theoretical and conceptual or artistic and design-based. Their approaches encompass both historical and contemporary sets of problems in equal measure. Since 2014, this work has been coordinated by the Institute for Design Research (IF) at BTK.

The No. 1 media city: The brand-new BTK campus in Hamburg is in the middle of Altona’s creative scene and just a few jumps away from the Elbe’s riverside beach. The striking historical building boasts cutting-edge technology and is conveniently located directly at Altona’s main train station.


The BTK University of Applied Sciences is officially recognised by the Berlin Senate (the Government of the Federal State of Berlin) since 2006 and the German Council of Science and Humanities institutionally accredited the BTK in 2009. The Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency has evaluated and accredited all the current degree courses offered by the BTK University of Applied Sciences.
