About

History

Named after engineer, military leader and public administrator Sir John Monash, Monash University was established by an Act of Parliament in 1958. When our first students began their studies at our foundation campus in Clayton in 1961, we became the first university established in the state of Victoria in over 100 years.

Education

We offer a large number of courses across numerous disciplines.

At Monash you can choose from many study options including double degrees, part-time study, off-campus learning and alternative pathways.

Research

Research is central to what we do at Monash University.

Since our establishment just over 50 years ago, we have become known for producing research that has an influence well beyond the academic community.

Many of our researcher have made discoveries leading to significant and lasting impacts, both in Australia and around the world. I believe that an important factor in this has been Monash's focus on research that is not limited by disciplinary or institutional barriers, but finds ways to overcome these hurdles.

Moving to a new country to study can be daunting, especially if you are living away from family for the first time. At Monash we have a range of services that support you before and after you arrive in Australia. These include pre-departure briefings to help you feel comfortable from the moment you get here. We also offer a free pick-up service to take you from Melbourne Airport to your accommodation.

Housing services

At Monash, we foster a sense of community among our students.

Community means safety, friendship, support and wellbeing. A vital part of preparing yourself for a life of learning, innovation and exploration is the opportunity to meet and learn from one another. This is what living on campus, or in "Res" offers.

For students who live on campus, university life continues beyond the classrooms. Every residence has a long list of activities to help you meet people, stay connected, form study groups and enjoy your time. Friends you make in Res may well become lifelong connections and form part of your social and professional networks well beyond graduation.
