University of Dance and Circus, DOCH

The University of Dance and Circus (Swedish: Dans- och cirkushögskolan, DOCH) is a Swedish institution offering higher education in the fields of dance education, folk dance, dance, dance therapy, historical dance, choreography and contemporary circus.



  • 1963 The Institute of Choreography, “Koreografiska institutet” opens, offering a one-year programme in Choreography. The premises are located in the Blanche Gallery (now Sweden House) in Stockholm.
  • 1964 A programme in Dance Pedagogy is established, later moved to Blasieholmstorg 8.
  • 1965 The Choreography Programme and the Programme in Dance Pedagogy are extended to three years.

Since the start of Stockholm University of the Arts January 1st 2014 - a merge between DOCH, the University College of Opera and Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts - all research is now gathered at Stockholm University of the Arts' website.

Student services

  • At the School of Dance and Circus we offer the possibility for students with disabilities, for instance dyslexia, to get support that is directly related to their education according to the individual need of the student.

Library services

The Board for Artistic Development, Research and Education (former KUFU, today NKU) helped fund publications aimed at spreading information about research and development projects of an artistic as well as a scientific nature. This includes publication of DOCH’s own report series and reports from its collaborations with other academies, universities and publishing houses.

Medical services

The employer has the main responsibility for the workplace environment and systematically takes the necessary measures to prevent ill health and accidents. Safety and health undertakings and the ensuing responsibilities are delegated clearly and recorded in writing in the line organisation. Systematic work on safety and health, integrated into the activity, is the natural work method.

Campus life

DOCH main buildning is located at Brinellvägen 58 on KTH Campus in Stockholm. The Circus Hall is located at Brinellvägen 34.

Student clubs

STUDOCH is the student union connected to the School of Dance and Circus. Our work is centered on ensuring education quality through student representation, and to contribute to make DOCH an inspiring and fun place to study.
