The University of Fribourg encompasses five faculties where people study, teach and research. These are Arts and Humanities, Science, Economics and Social Sciences, Law and Theology. As well as these there are numerous interdisciplinary institutes and centres of excellence. The approximately 10,000 students in the Bachelor, Masters and PhD programs receive first-class personal support from over 800 professors, lecturers and research assistants.


The University of Fribourg is committed to excellence in research and teaching, and takes pride in a truly interdisciplinary spirit.

There are a total of five faculties, with activities spanning the entire research spectrum, as well as numerous cross-faculty and interdisciplinary projects and units. In addition, the University participates in an array of centres of scientific excellence and is home to the bio-Inspired Materials NCCR. Several researchers at the University were highly-awarded for their scientific excellence through ERC grants.
