About

History

The roots of Lake Forest College can be found in the mid-1800’s when a group of Presbyterian ministers and leaders boarded a northbound train in Chicago. Their goal was to identify a suitable location to construct a new community. Lake Forest University, later renamed Lake Forest College, was founded in 1857.

Education

Our curriculum engages students in the breadth of the liberal arts and the depth of traditional disciplines. We prepare our students for, and help them attain, productive and rewarding careers. We foster creative talent and independent research. Our faculty of distinguished scholars takes pride in its commitment to teaching. We know our students by name and prepare them to become responsible citizens of the global community. We enable students, faculty, trustees, and administrators to solve problems in a civil manner, collectively. We maintain a secure residential campus of great beauty. Services

Student services

Student organizations offer Foresters fun, personal, and professional opportunities outside of the classroom that build life skills.

Check out all of our student organizations at the involvement fair at the beginning of every semester. Cultural clubs, Greek organizations, athletic programs and just about everyone else lines up so new students can see the variety of activities they can choose to be a part of. There’s something for everyone!

Housing services

Lake Forest College’s 107-acre campus is located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago in the historic suburb of Lake Forest. Wooded ravines connect North, Middle, and South Campus, and the beach along Lake Michigan is a short distance away. It’s largely a walking (or biking, or sometimes skateboarding) campus.

Most of our students live on campus, although some commuter students come from the suburbs and Chicago.  Lake Forest is a small city where students use their College IDs to get discounts at stores and restaurants.

The train to Chicago is a half-mile walk from campus.

Library services

The mission of the Lake Forest College Office of Library & Information Technology is to provide and facilitate the use of technology and information resources in support of the pursuit of academic excellence.

ICT services

Welcome to student computing at Lake Forest College! Here you’ll find resources for residential students as well as commuters. Every residence hall has a high-speed connection to the campus network and the Internet. Wireless-equipped computers can connect in all residence halls, the Mohr Student Center, and Donnelley and Lee Library.

Medical services

The Health and Wellness Center supports the College mission to promote an exceptional student experience by providing prevention-focused, accessible and high quality healthcare and counseling for a diverse student population.

We are dedicated to encouraging behaviors that change or eliminate health-related barriers, and to promoting optimal physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual wellness.

Student Life

Campus life

Lake Forest is a close-knit, diverse community where most of our students live on campus throughout their four years. Whether you’re a first-year, transfer, or international student, you’ll feel at home here on our safe, beautiful campus.

Every semester starts with Forester Fair where nearly 90 student organizations line up looking to recruit new members. There’s no shortage of cultural, academic, and personal interest clubs on campus.

When you’re not in the classroom or studying in Wood Lounge, you might find yourself playing pool in the Student Center, talking a short walk to the lake, or even going down to Chicago.

Sports facilities

Live in balance at Lake Forest College. Take advantage of our recreation, fitness, and wellbeing programs and services.

Break a sweat with friends on the basketball court in our state-of-the-art Sports & Recreation Center, or slow down, take a breath, and examine your inner peace during a 90-minute yoga class. The Forester Fitness Team is here to help you keep pace with life’s demands.

Student clubs

Foresters have nearly 90 active student organizations, club sports, and intramural opportunities at Lake Forest College. Involvement in campus life outside the classroom provides important, “real-world” experience that gives our students the edge, both personally and professionally.
