USF St. Petersburg has a history rich with academic excellence, entrepreneurial spirit and ingenuity. Its founders opened the doors to students on Sept. 5, 1965, and throughout its history this academic cove on Bayboro Harbor has embraced enormous change as Florida’s need for higher education intensified.
USF St. Petersburg is the place to know and be known. In addition to offering you an excellent education in a small-classroom setting, we also offer great opportunities to get involved beyond the classroom.
Research is at the heart of the USFSP experience, and it’s not limited to graduate students. Among the most distinctive aspects of our curriculum are the myriad opportunities for undergraduate research.
The USF System has five library facilities: the USF Tampa Library, the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library at USF St. Petersburg, the Jane Bancroft Cook Library at USF Sarasota-Manatee, the Hinks and Elaine Shimberg Health Sciences Library, and the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI) Research Library.
The University of South Florida St. Petersburg has an active campus life. The majority of activities involving students are officially the responsibility of the Division of Student Affairs, but over the years, Student Government Association has become the sole funding source of Student Life, Campus Reservations and New Student Orientation. In April 2006, Student Government opened a new volleyball and basketball courts facility on campus.
There are over 100 registered student organizations at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg! From academic, professional organizations and special interest groups to honor societies and multicultural student organizations, there are so many ways to get involved!
The University of South Florida St. Petersburg is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award degrees at the baccalaureate and master’s levels.
