SLU is a young university with a long history. It was founded in 1977 out of the agricultural, forestry and veterinary university colleges, the Veterinary School at Skara and the Forestry School at Skinnskatteberg.
SLU offers programmes and courses, ranging from Bachelor's to Master's and PhD level. There's also a variety of courses for those who wants to shape their own education.
The Master's programmes offered by SLU are unique and based on our strength and profile areas, a bio-based economy and environment, health and life quality. The combination of teaching and research provide students with countless opportunities for interesting, in-depth studies and specializations.
Research and doctoral education stand for 70 per cent of SLU's turnover. Sound basic research is combined with more practical studies to solve concrete problems. The researchers often work interdisciplinarily.
The Study and career advisers can act as your sounding board and as someone to talk to when thinking about your studies and your choice of career.
We are there to support and guide you, whether you are thinking about becoming a student or you already are one. All study and career advisers have an obligation of confidentiality and our basic view is that we always take the students life situation into account and act on the basis of an overall perspective.
Once you have been accepted as a student at SLU, it is time to think about accommodation options. Finding an appropriate place to live can be a difficult, competitive and time-consuming process. The earlier you start looking and applying for accommodation, the more alternatives you will have. Once you know where you will be studying, the best thing you can do is to put your name in an accommodation queue. The more queues you are in, the better chance you have of finding accommodation.
The SLU University Library works with, and contributes to developing, scientific communication. The library also supports researchers, students and employees in order to strengthen the quality of SLU's research and education. Visit us in Umeå, Uppsala, Skinnskatteberg or Alnarp.
The Student Health Centre (Studenthälsan)
The Student Health Centre operates as a health service for all SLU students, and works predominantly with study-related healthcare, medical advice, and crisis assistance. The Student Health Centre works in connection to the district Healthcare Centre, which provides general medical care.
SLU’s campuses and research facilities are spread throughout Sweden, with three main campuses located in Alnarp, Umeå and Uppsala. Though each campus differs in size and structure, they all have a warm, friendly and inspiring atmosphere. SLU currently has over 4000 students and 700 research students enrolled and conducts a range of teaching and research activities throughout the country.
Like all students in Sweden, those at SLU have the opportunity to become a member of a student union. At SLU there are eight different student unions, and students can join one union depending on the programme they are enrolled in.
