In 1905 the Missouri Legislature created five districts in the state to establish normal schools, comprising a state teacher college network.


The business, education, geography and agriculture departments graduate the largest number of students each year.


The office of Institutional Research assists academic departments and service units with identification and measurement of key performance metrics, designs and administers mission-related surveys, develops data collection and reporting processes, maintains a dashboard/information management system and provides data analysis to support the research and strategic decisions made at various levels of the institution.

Campus life

Millikan Hall, a seven-story high rise located on the northwest corner of campus, is home to 306 residents. Millikan is a non-smoking building and is coed by floor. University Wellness Services, The Station, and a sand volleyball court are located nearby.

Sports facilities

University Wellness Services, located on the northwest corner of campus in the Wellness Center, delivers high quality care to Northwest students.  Wellness Services provides a multitude of services for our students, including:

  • Outpatient Clinical Services
  • Public Health Services
  • Nutrition Services

Student clubs

For student organizations, there are a variety of resources available. Each group has unlimited storage for documents. There is a flyer board to advertise upcoming events and meetings, and even the possibility of holding elections in an online accessible and paper-free environment !


Northwest is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Northwest was most recently reaffirmed for accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission in July 2012.
