Founded in 1878 as Ashland College, the name of the institution was changed to Ashland University on May 12, 1989. This change was a practical and logical step based on the many diverse undergraduate, graduate and professional programs offered by the institution.
Ashland continues to have a rich tradition as a private, liberal arts and sciences institution preparing students for exciting professions and careers. The University consists of four academic colleges -- College of Arts & Sciences, Dauch College of Business & Economics, Schar College of Education and Schar College of Nursing and Health Sciences -- as well as the Graduate, Online and Adult Studies; the Founders School for Continuing Education; and Ashland Theological Seminary.

Living on campus provides many benefits to college-bound students, and those who live on campus traditionally perform much better in the classroom. At Ashland University, living on campus will contribute to developing friendships; being a part of the Eagle community; having an established support system; the opportunity to be employed as a resident assistant; and will also prove to be convenient by living a short walk from classes and facilities.
Sport clubs are student-led, student-run organizations which typically compete with other university or town sponsored sport clubs or teams and travel to different events/games throughout the year. Sport Clubs typically involve more organized competition than intramural sports and may involve playoff components at the conclusion of the season. The level of competition varies from club to club, and some clubs are purely recreational in nature. For more information on individual clubs, feel free to reach out to the presidents through the emails listed below for specific answers to any questions you may have.
