History

From its origins as a School of Medicine and Surgery in 1834, Newcastle University today offers a first-class student experience in the heart of Britainís number one student city. Newcastle is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensive universities.

Education

They are one of only 9 Institutions in the UK to hold an Athena SWAN Silver award demonstrating the impact of their activties. They are actively working with their Schools and Institutes to achieve Athena SWAN accreditation. Seventeen academic units currently hold Athena SWAN departmental awards - including five Silver and twelve Bronze awards.

They have an extensive range of catered and self-catered University-owned and managed accommodation.Through the Property Management Service, NUstudenthomes, they lease properties from owners and rent them to students. They also have a comprehensive selection of privately advertised properties.They can help with:

  • advice on general accommodation concerns, including tenancy issues and re-lets
  • management of rent accounts and associated debt advice

Library services

Newcastles Library Service is the only one in the UK to be awarded the government's Charter Mark for excellent customer services five times in a row and the new Customer Services Excellence award. As well as the main library, there are libraries in the Medical School and Law School, and together these house over 1 million books and 100,000 electronic resources.

AACSB International - the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, based in the USA. A process of voluntary, non-governmental review of educational institutions and programmes, reviewing business schools and universities. As a specialised agency, AACSB International grants accreditation for undergraduate and graduate business administration and accounting programmes.
