About

History

After getting the go-ahead to build in 1960, the Earlham golf course was chosen as the site of the permanent campus and work began in 1961.The university was originally based in the present-day University Village - with teaching space for about 1200 students - and admitted its' first cohort of 87 students in 1963. UEA welcomed its first Vice-Chancellor, Frank Thistlethwaite at this time.

Student services

To support all students not from the UK, the University has a designated International Student Advisory Team (ISAT) to provide advice and guidance while you are studying at UEA. The team has International Student Advisors available to provide advice and help on many issues. ISAT also provide other opportunities to enrich your experience in the UK.

Housing services

Living in residences is a university experience not to be missed, especially if this is your first time living away from home. Our undergraduate accommodation is among the best in the country. It was voted number one in the UK by the What Uni Student Choice Awards in 2011 and our research also shows that we have some of the best value student accommodation compared to the UK's other top 30 universities.

Library services

There are 233 pcs available in the Library building in open access areas. There are also some bookable individual study rooms with PCs. There are two Study Rooms for Postgraduate Students on Floor 2 of the Library. One room is for Research Postgraduates and the other is for Taught Postgraduate. These rooms have campus card access.

ICT services

IT Services provides software for computers in offices and IT Areas as well as applications you can install on your own computer. We also manage site licensed software and license and purchasing agreements for most of the software used on campus.

Medical services

Our health services and primary care research is focused on identifying factors impairing the quality of care in the UK and other countries, and identifying health technologies and ways of delivering them that are effective, efficient, equitable and acceptable. Health services research is mostly done through the Department of Population Health and Primary Care.

Student Life

Campus life

The campus is located in 320 acres of rolling parkland just two miles from the centre of Norwich, the cathedral city, and England’s first UNESCO City of Literature. This uniquely-placed University is also a leading member of Norwich Research Park, one of Europe's biggest concentrations of researchers in the fields of environment, health and plant science.

Sports facilities

There is a 50m Olympic size pool, 12 badminton courts, an 8-lane athletics track, six floodlit hockey and soccer pitches as well as a state-of-the-art gym. Add to that the 10x28m climbing wall, 5 squash courts, newly-equipped gymnastics centre, 6 tennis courts and 40 acres of playing fields, and you can see why Sportspark is a one-stop sporting destination. There are loads more on offer so pop along and investigate further.

Student clubs

Joining in is part of the fun of student life and there are more than 200 clubs and societies at UEA (voted first place in the WhatUni student choice awards 2014), which will allow you to meet others with shared interests, whether it's climate change, drama, photography, music or basketball. All of these groups are open to all students – so why not get involved? Membership is not just the best way to meet people but it enhances your CV too.
