After getting the go-ahead to build in 1960, the Earlham golf course was chosen as the site of the permanent campus and work began in 1961.The university was originally based in the present-day University Village - with teaching space for about 1200 students - and admitted its' first cohort of 87 students in 1963. UEA welcomed its first Vice-Chancellor, Frank Thistlethwaite at this time.

The Archive recently completed a major cataloguing and digitisation programme funding by the Heritage Lottery Fund, UEA and Screen East. The Archive¹s thousands of films and videotapes are kept in optimum storage conditions in temperature and humidity controlled vaults. The Archive works with a range of public and private sector partners and provides commercial services including conservation storage, footage licensing, film digitisation, telecine and obsolete format video transfers.

There are 233 pcs available in the Library building in open access areas. There are also some bookable individual study rooms with PCs. There are two Study Rooms for Postgraduate Students on Floor 2 of the Library. One room is for Research Postgraduates and the other is for Taught Postgraduate. These rooms have campus card access.
IT Services provides software for computers in offices and IT Areas as well as applications you can install on your own computer. We also manage site licensed software and license and purchasing agreements for most of the software used on campus.
Our health services and primary care research is focused on identifying factors impairing the quality of care in the UK and other countries, and identifying health technologies and ways of delivering them that are effective, efficient, equitable and acceptable. Health services research is mostly done through the Department of Population Health and Primary Care.
The campus is located in 320 acres of rolling parkland just two miles from the centre of Norwich, the cathedral city, and England’s first UNESCO City of Literature. This uniquely-placed University is also a leading member of Norwich Research Park, one of Europe's biggest concentrations of researchers in the fields of environment, health and plant science.
