International Telematic University UNINETTUNO

Rome, Italy
The International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, established with the decree of the 15 April 2005 of the Minister of Education, University and Research, is born from NETTUNO – Network per l’Università Ovunque, a Consortium of 43 Italian and foreign universities which, since 1992, thousands of students took a distance university degree thanks to the use of technology applied to distance education, and from the international-level success of the European Med Net’U (Mediterranean Network of Universities) Project.

The International Telematic University UNINETTUNO has six Faculties (Engineering, Economics, Literature, Psychology, Communication Sciences and Law), about 12,000 students coming from 65 different countries of the world; its has the only didactic platform realised, and delivers courses, in 6 languages (Italian, English, French, Arabic, Greek and Polish); it has 20 Technological Poles in Italy and in many foreign countries and it is the only Italian telematic university that passed twice and unreservedly the evaluation procedure of the Ministry of Education, University and Research.

As recognition for the high quality of its offer and for the best e-learning institution at European level, in April 2010 UNINETTUNO was awarded the E-xcellence quality label, shown in the University’s website.

The UNINETTUNO didactic model and its web-based learning environments are the outcome of over 25 years of international scientific research applied to teaching and learning technologies, research work conducted by the Rector of the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, Prof. Maria Amata Garito and her team of collaborators and researchers. This approach allows to implement a psycho-pedagogic model concretising the shift from the professor’s central role to the student’s central role, from knowledge transmission to the co-construction of knowledge, from a passive and competitive learning to an active and collaborative learning.

The continuous and daily interaction between the student and the professor who supports the student’s learning process is an essential feature in UNINETTUNO psycho-pedagogic model.

In the learning environments of the Didactic Cyberspace the students have at their disposal a model of knowledge organisation that makes them active players of the teaching and learning processes.
