Student Support

Focus on the student

At MC, our every choice and every activity, each institution, service or system that we have established, is centred around the student.

We support academic progress and enrich the learning process of our students with all possible means.

We are at the students side at every moment, during all of their studies and at all levels, with the office of student affairs, the personal academic adviser system, regular briefing on academic progress, the system of evaluation of academic progress, the institution of visiting lecturers, the English language reinforcing courses, information sessions with parents, educational visits and events.

Within this framework of support which accompanies them to the end of their studies, our students feel the security and certainty they need in order to develop their potential to its utmost and complete their studies successfully.

Academic Scholarships

The offering of motivation and reward for excellence is one of the fundamental principles on which the modern educational process is based. In Mediterranean College (MC), we believe in the abilities of our students and we put this into practice. The awarding of scholarships takes places at a special ceremony and is part of the annual College Graduation Ceremony.

We support student activity.

To be a student at the Mediterranean College does not only mean studying, submissions and examinations, but also creation, freedom of thought and activities. For this reason, and in line with the larger European and American Universities, the Mediterranean Student Affairs Office was created. The office of Student Affairs works directly with the Students' Union and promotes the organisation of teaching, recreational & athletic activities (educational visits, excursions, dances, tournaments, etc), the development of voluntary social action, the resolution of operational issues, publication of the student newspaper, etc.

Educational Activities

The organisation of forums, lectures, seminars, videoconferences with Greek and international personalities and special workshops on modern and topical subjects from the fields of science, business, economy, policy, psychology, technology etc., has become a tradition at Mediterranean College (MC). These events aim to extend and enrich the knowledge of students on their cognitive subject, bringing to them in direct contact with the job market, but also helping them acquire an in-depth perception of modern society. The open lectures organised by the colleges are legend. These are speeches by eminent, internationally-recognised scientists and speakers, such as Noam Chomsky, Professor of Linguistics and Philosophy at MIT, Nobel Candidate Gabriela Chichilnisky and Ted Honderich, Chairman of the Royal Institute of Philosophy in the UK. Whilst technology allows the attendance of conference speakers from a distance, the MC has already organised videoconferences with Professor Dr James Mittelman, Professor David Held, and a host of other academics from the largest universities in the world.

Student Life

Studying & living in Greece Largely influenced by its history and geographical location Greece offers all its visitors the opportunity to experience a lifestyle which has managed to grasp the pace of contemporary western society, without however ignoring its rich traditions which have been influenced by eastern cultures, as well as the wisdom of the ancient Greek civilisation. International students choose Greece as their studies destination because they:

  • are given the opportunity to study in the English language and obtain internationally recognised qualifications from reputable British Universities
  • enjoy the hospitality of the people, the mild Mediterranean climate, the excellent cuisine, an array of entertainment choices and the beautiful rural landscape
  • avoid the higher cost of living of most of western countries, such as the UK or the US

Accreditation

From its foundation and throughout its operation, Mediterranean Colleges very first concern has been to secure high quality of studies, exceptional teaching, and a nurturing student environment. The College has managed to ensure its high standards by adopting international benchmarks and practices followed by all the educational institutions of higher learning within the United Kingdom.

International Accreditation of Academic Quality

In contrast with the Greek state universities and institutes of higher learning (AEI & TEI), which to this day are neither audited nor accredited by a formal authority, Mediterranean College is audited for the quality of its educational services by British academic authorities and accreditation bodies.

QAA - The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education

All Universities and Colleges within the United Kingdom are required to secure high standards of quality in the academic services they offer. The QAA has exclusive responsibility to offer all institutions of higher learning within the U.K. a complete system of quality assurance by implementing regular audits and by introducing long-term methods of improvement in the quality of the teaching and academic services delivered. Mediterranean College, as a collaborative partner of some UK universities, has been visited twice (and most recently in 2008) by the QAA, as part of a series of audits of UK universities delivering courses internationally in collaboration with local education providers.

British Accreditation Council for Further and Higher Education

The British Accreditation Council (BAC) is an independent body within the U.K. which was formed in 1984 by the British Council, the QAA, the Council of Validating Universities (CVU) and the British Universities Council of Vice-Chancellors. BACs aim was to act as a national accreditation body for tertiary level education within the United Kingdom. BAC was described by the Secretary of State for Education as the only public guarantee of standards in independent institutions of further and higher education.

Since 2000, Mediterranean College has been accredited and recognised by BAC as an institution providing higher education. Reaccreditation audits have been successfully carried out in 2006 and in 2011, with the College receiving commendations for the quality of its student welfare provision on both campuses and a rich pattern of extra mural activities.

NARIC Recognition

Since 2006, with their degree from MC, graduates have the opportunity to also acquire certification from the British NARIC (National Recognition and Information Centre).

NARIC is the British equivalent of DOATAP. It checks and then certifies that qualifications (undergraduate and postgraduate) granted to graduates of Greek colleges are absolutely equivalent in regards to professional and academic rights in Great Britain, as those that are granted to alumnus of British universities.

The acquisition of certification from NARIC strengthens the recognition of graduates degrees, while covering the condition of paragraph g of article 50 of European Directive 36/2005. It is notable that the British DOATAP (NARIC) is one of the most active accreditation agency of its kind in Europe and its certification is particularly important for Colleges and their graduates.

Graduates of MC interested in acquiring NARIC certification may contact the Student Affairs Office or email to alumni@medcollege.edu.gr for further information with regard to the relative application that he should submit and the method of payment of the sum that NARIC requires for issuing certification.

NARIC certification is provided to the holders of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications and is issued by the corresponding institution twice a year.

Hellenic Colleges Association (HCA)

Mediterranean College is a founding member of the Hellenic Colleges Association (HCA). HCA was established in 1998 and since then has been continually promoting the State recognition of degrees awarded by European Union Universities through Greek Colleges. All members of the Association are accredited by the BAC (British Accreditation Council) as institutions providing higher education.
