City's tradition of providing high quality education relevant to business and the professions dates back 160 years. For many of our graduates, time spent at City laid the groundwork for leadership, innovation and excellence that have changed the world we live in.
Our concurrent focus on business and the professions provides our students with opportunities for direct interaction with future employers and makes our courses relevant, exciting and topical. Many have innovative modes of study involving placement opportunities and engagement with high-profile visiting lecturers from the professions. This complements the academic expertise offered within the University.
To support learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, we have recently established an integrated learning environment that combines physical and virtual learning spaces. This is used to support students in their studies, supplementing lectures and seminars with high quality online material.
Research is at the heart of City’s academic activities, with a renowned reputation for fostering interdisciplinary activity, innovation and creativity.
Through research, our academic staff seek to advance knowledge in our areas of specialism and to bring value to society. For REF 2014, City submitted 1,592 academic outputs (such as journal articles) and 49 impact case studies from 378 staff (FTE).
The REF is a peer-review process to assess the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. Some 75% of City’s submission to the REF was rated as being of world leading 4* (23%) and internationally excellent 3* (52%) quality.
