Creative inspiration between Rhine and Ruhr: the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is located in the European region with the highest density of institutions of higher learning. Created in 2003 by the merger of the universities of Duisburg and Essen, the UDE is the youngest university in North Rhine-Westphalia and one of the ten largest universities in Germany.

The "Support Center for (International) Engineering Students" (SCIES) acts as a help desk for all study-related questions in the Faculty of Engineering. The mission of SCIES is to support all students at the Faculty of Engineering and to help them gain the best from their experiences at the University of Duisburg-Essen. SCIES consults in questions with the studies, helps in administrative matter, supports in finding accommodation and is in all questions the first level support for the students.
The Online Service Point is a useful Internet address for internationally mobile academics. It supports PhD students from abroad, visiting scientists and researchers, postdocs and newly-appointed professors - and as a family friendly University also their families - in the planning, preparation and realisation of their stay in Duisburg-Essen. It also provides information and specifically-targeted assistance in all non-academic, extracurricular fields. The Welcome Services sees itself as the central contact and service point. It offers its own range of services and also coordinates with other service facilities, where necessary.
Centre for Information and Media ServicesThe CIM is acting as a central service for all members of the University of Duisburg-Essen. The CIM was founded in order to boost the core competences of the computing and media centres, the data processing unit of the administration and the library by merging them into one organisation.
Accommodation will be offered in single rooms with private bathrooms (shower and toilet), desk, refrigerator, pre-paid phone, TV and WLAN internet access, which can be used free of charge exclusively by the guests of the Bildungshotel. The University of Essen can be reached, due to the central location of the Bildungshotel, in a 10 minute walk. The tram stop for public transportation is just in front of the Bildungshotel and offers a good connection to the main station of Essen.The hotel offers a free weekly bathroom cleaning service and changing of used linen and towels. Washing machines and dryer are provided for private use.
