Student services

The University of Tampere organises a one-weekorientation coursefor all new international students at the beginning of each semester. The course covers issues such as studies at the UTA, practicalities related to the arrival in Finland, university services provided to students, and activities of the student union and its clubs and societies.

As an international student, you are also givenastudent tutor- a local student to guide you in the process of moving to a new country and university. Student tutors will be in touch with you already before your arrival and will help you with practical problems and ease your way into the university community.

Housing services

Finnish universities do not have on-campus dormitories. In larger cities, there are apartments rented for students by a housing foundation. Housing for students in Tampere is administrated by the Tampere Student Housing Foundation (TOAS).

Opiskelijan Tampere is a non-profit organization providing INT Housing accommodation for students studying in Tampere during the autumn semester.

Library services

Tampere University Library is a scientific library open to everyone. Library services are primarily developed to support the teaching and research of the University of Tampere.

The Library serves in Linna library on Main campus' Linna building and inArvo library on Kauppi campus' Arvo building.

Medical services

Health care services for Bachelor’s and Master’s level degree students and exchange and visiting students who have paid their Tamy membership fee are provided by the Finnish Student Health Service, FSHS (in Finnish Ylioppilaiden terveydenhoitosäätiö, YTHS). FSHS runs Health Centres in 13 university cities. To use these services, you must have a valid student card.

Campus life

Tampere is known for its active student life. Students are involved in many cultural events, they organise events and in general keep the wheels moving. There are close to 40,000 students in the three Universities in Tampere and they definitely make their presence felt! Tampere is an excellent city for studying and almost every fifth person living in Tampere is a student. According to several national surveys, Tampere is the most popular city to live and study in Finland.

Sports facilities

Unipoli Sport offers sports services on three campuses: Hervanta (TUT), Kauppi (TAMK) and the city centre (UTA). Of course, you can choose your own place to exercise according to your own schedule, close to your place of studies, next to your or your friend's home, or just a nice bike ride away.

All campuses have comprehensive sports services, including gyms, group exercise activities, ball games and different courses.

Student clubs

University of Tampere has a very active student union. All Bachelor and Master level students, as well as exchange students, are members of the Union and are entitled to a number of student benefits, for example discounts in the national and local public transport.

The Student Union is also active in the university, and students have a right defined by law to take part in the university governance.The student union also has various clubs and societies, which organize activities from student parties to board game nights and excursions to development aid.
