The University of Rennes 1 was found in 1969 but its root is in with the Breton university founded in 1461. The university has 3 campuses. There are 23300 students; among them 3000 are foreign students. There are also 2000 students who are studying continuing education. 1900 teachers supervise them. There is also 1100 administrative and technical staff.
The main scientific area in which the university is specialized in are : Science, Technology, Engineering and Health (STS); Law, Politics, Economics, Management and Administration Sciences (SJPEG); Social and Human Sciences (SHS). There are about 550 degrees for the students. It is also offering some diploma degrees, for example: Diplômes d'université (DU) and Diplômes inter-universitaires (DIU). The university also offers Teaching, in partnership with the IUFM de Bretagne (Capes, Capet, agrégation); Law; Public Administration. It has also some training formulas: initial and continuing education; formal education and accreditation of prior learning (VAE, validation des acquis de l'expérience); apprenticeship training; distance learning.
