About

History

Nord University was established on January 1 2016, after a merger between University of Nordland, Nord-Trøndelag University College and Nesna University College.

Nord University offers studies at bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The university has study locations in Central and Northern Norway, with state of the art teaching and research facilities, located in a spectacular northern setting. Nord University also facilitates a range of flexible and online study programmes via active use of learning technology.

Nord University has a focus on developing regional networks with communities, business and industry, which is strengthened by a decentralised model. Cooperation between the university and community and working life stimulates development, through the education of professionals and leaders and through research that contributes to economic growth.

Research

All research conducted at University of Nordland should be based upon respect for the rights and welfare the participants. Considertion of participants' welfare and integrity is the basis for ethical research and takes precendence over the interests of science and society.

Career

The Career Centre provides a range of services, including:

  • Job application seminar in cooperation with the International Student Union (ISU). Dates are published on the Centre's facebook page.
  • Coordination of the UiN careers fair, held each spring semester. Companies and public sector organisations present themselves as potential future employers.
  • Individual career guidance, upon request.

Services

Student services

The International Office, in collaboration with the faculties, has primary responsibility for internationalisation initiatives at Nord University as well as the institution's internationalisation strategy.

The staff at the International Office can assist with enquiries from international exchange and degree candidates, as well as local students and staff wishing to participate in exchange programs. The International Office organises a common orientation meeting for new international students each semester as well as practical assistance for newly arrived students.

Library services

The University Library has eight branches. At Nord University's study location in Sandnessjøen you will find course literature and other academic literature at Alstahaug Public Library.

ICT services

The IT Helpdesk handles questions and problems regarding the university data network and data equipment, including hardware, software installation and updates, student and staff accounts and access, printer connections, hacking attempts and viruses.

Medical services

As a member of the Student Health Fund you are entitled to help in covering your medical treatment.

What happens if you are involved in an accident and become either totally or partially disabled? The answer depends on where and when the injury/incident occured, your residency status in Norway, and which private insurance you have.

As a student of Nord University, you are represented by Student Organisation Nord. You also have the opportunity to participate in other student unions and associations.

Accreditation

The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research hereby confirms the legal status of the Nord University as a state education and research institution with recognised programs for the Bachelor`s, Master`s degrees and doctoral education programs, receiving funds from the Ministry of Education and Research following decision budget allocations in the National Assembly.
