About

History

Our history goes back over more than a century. ESA, Ecole Supérieure d’Agricultures, saw the light of day in 1898 with the encouragement of professionals from the rural world in the West of France. Professionals who wanted to develop the agricultural sector by creating a school specialised in training engineers in agriculture.

Education

Studying at ESA means benefiting from a setting that is conducive to your personal development and growth at a school that specialises in agriculture. You will be enriched by the exchanges with the lecturers, with the other students during group work and in the student clubs and societies.

Research

ESA gives priority to multidisciplinary research at the service of its departments, study programmes and international presence. 5 research units, 90 researchers, of whom 41 are lecturer-researchers, working on research in the service of the design of sustainable agricultural and food systems.

Career

The ALUMNI Association of Executives & Technicians is a convivial professional network of the different generations of students from the many ESA study programmes.

  • Building your network - As a young graduate, you are looking for experience. The alumni network can support you in starting on your professional life. A direct contact with another graduate may assist you in expressing your potential. The “Job offers” service will try to guide you in your search by circulating offers of jobs to newly graduated members.
  • Exchanges - Our get-togethers are a way to get to know other ESA alumni and students. You can search for and find again fellow graduates from your year.

Services

Student services

The Student Activities Offices are key players in life at ESA, playing an important role in the integration of students. They facilitate the exchanges, and promote friendship and mutual support between the various years. Bridging the different clubs and student societies of the school, they bring students together through entertainment and other events at ESA. 

Housing services

ESA students live off-campus. Angers is a town that hosts 38,000 students every year. You will easily find somewhere to live in our area:

  • in ESA’s Oxford hall of residence (see below),
  • In university student halls of residence (watch out for application deadlines) or in private student residences,
  • in hostels for students or young workers,
  • via private owners: consult Internet websites or useful addresses,
  • in flats managed by low-rental housing services (HLM).

Medical services

Health insurance cover is mandatory when staying in France.

  • It is also possible to consult doctors free of charge at the Maison des Etudiants. The International Service can supply you with a list of general practitioners and dentists in the vicinity of ESA.
  • The French State compulsory health insurance scheme for students enables you to be reimbursed for part of your health expenses.

Campus life

Angers, the plant capital since the 19th century, a region certified green, a new way of living in the town! 17th town of France at the heart of an agglomeration with more than 270,000 inhabitants, of whom 38,000 are students. A green town, noted for its culture and diverse activities, Angers is a town “on a human scale”, renowned for its mild climate and quality of life. It offers a unique environment in which to live with landscapes classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. 

Sports facilities

The ESA Sports Club offers many different types of sports for everybody: soccer, volley ball, basketball, badminton. Other sports may also be played depending on the demand from students. Training takes place during the week in a spirit of camaraderie and with a view to having a good time!

The Sports Club also offers its members the chance to participate in major university tournaments in all types of sports: petanque, archery, athletics, tennis, horse riding, etc.Several half days of rock climbing, canoeing and hiking are organised when the weather is good. It is an opportunity to spend time with friends in a sporting and recreational context.
