Basically students work mostly in “Minijobs”, at the university (SHK, WHK)or sometimes as self-employed. For tax purposes, it is useful to take a job for less than 450 Euros amonth, where no tax, health and unemployment contributions are deducted. Foreign students, depending on the country of origin, may have some work restrictions.
