Academic excellence

The University of Essex enjoys an international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, we were rated ninth nationally for research excellence. Over half of our subject areas were rated in the top ten nationally, with four rated in the top five, confirming our place as the UK's leading social science university in the UK.

As a result of this expertise, we are able to offer challenging academic study across 500 programmes programmes in the areas of social science, law and management, science and engineering, and humanities and comparative studies.

Healthy and sustainable

Our Green Task Force (GTF) is tackling environmental issues on all campuses and aims to lead the way on sustainability for all higher education institutions. We have also achieved Energy Efficiency Accreditation for continued investment into energy efficiency. The University is also proud of its ongoing research in the areas of the environment and sustainability.
