The University of Kaiserslautern is a relatively new research-oriented German university with a scientific-technological profile. It has a beautiful mid-size campus located at the edge of the world-famous UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Palatinate Forest. It consists of 12 departments offering more than 100 study programmes to 12,500 students. The University has 1,126 employees, 167 professors, and 600 academic staff. Our Centre for Distance Studies and Continuing Education is Germanys second largest provider in Graduate Distance Education.
The University of Kaiserslautern is internationally renowned for its excellence in research and graduate education. It is located amidst a high-profile cluster of research centres and technology transfer institutes. A special feature of our research activities and our graduate education is the strong link to national and international industries and the fruitful interaction with the affiliated research institutes, united in a registered association called "Science Alliance" and lined up in the so-called science mile along our campus.
Prospective engineers and natural scientists are well-prepared for their career if they study at the University of Kaiserslautern. Internships in companies as well as living / studying abroad provide an academic education closely related to professional practice. Further, students profit from the numerous well-known participating research institutes located near our campus. In terms of applied research projects, the institutes closely co-operate with the University. They include for example, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, the Institute for Composite Materials, the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics, and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems.

The University of Kaiserslautern offers a healthy and secure study environment and encompassing services for (post)graduate students. As Higher Education is perceived a public good in Germany, the University of Kaiserslautern is strongly state-financed and hence does not charge any tuition fees on the undergraduate level; some Master programs charge moderate tuition fees. Doctoral studies are free of charge.

The International School for Graduate Studies (ISGS)
The International School for Graduate Studies serves as a university wide base to promote internationally attractive, high ranking Master programs and PhD studies. It serves as a one-stop office for international graduate and doctoral students. The ISGS provides a broad range of services (accommodation, social tutoring, language and integration program, cultural programs, support in administrative and organisational issues, information and counselling, application and admission)

Sports facilities
The university has a Sports Hall in building 28 which includes facilities for badminton, gym, table tennis, etc. Running, hockey, basketball and football can be played in the accompanying sports grounds.
