The University of Kassel, founded in 1971, is the newest university in the state of Hessen. At present, it has about 20.000 students. The number of staff is more than 2.365, including 312 professors, approximately 900 other academic staff, and about 1.500 technical and administrative staff.

Germany allows freedom of choice in regard to doctors and medical care. This means that you can choose your doctor, but it is nevertheless recommended to have a family doctor. In case of illness, necessary medical check-up or vaccination, your family doctor will be familiar with your medical history and can also refer you to a hospital or specialist as well as prescribe specialised therapy.
The university city of Kassel has about 200,000 inhabitants. It is located in the centre of Germany and has many places of interest, most notably the beautiful hillside park around the castle of Wilhelmshöhe, the Habichtswald nature reserve, parks and leisure areas.Kassel is also the city of the Grimm Brothers, collectors of fairy tales and authors of the first dictionary of the German language.
The Centre for University Sports (Zentrum für Hochschulsport) offers approximately 100 courses, workshops, sporting tours, and excursions in over 70 different kinds of sports. These include: martial arts, aerobic and strength training, games, dance, aquatics, and winter sports. Online registration takes place at the beginning of each semester. The minimum fee for employees is 10 Euro. The courses are open to guests if spots are available.
