About

History

  • Erasmus University Rotterdam is the founding organisation of the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences (NIHES). NIHES was established in 1992 to further improve scientific research on determinants of diseases and health, the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare and services, and the theory and methods of health sciences. NIHES is a centre for quantitative research that provides graduate and postgraduate education in medicine and health sciences. The Institute also provides comprehensive research training for health professionals through the large array of courses in various disciplines. The programmes combine theoretical training and practical research training to prepare participants for research, executive and advisory positions.
  • NIHES holds a very strong international position. It cooperates with a global network of leading research centres in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the USA.

Education

We provide MSc, DSc, PhD and Executive Programmes at the forefront of knowledge in Health Sciences and Clinical Research methodology. We also provide tailor-made research training through the Erasmus Summer Programme, Erasmus Winter Programme and the individual courses in various disciplines.

Student services

Social activities

  • Throughout the year, various social activities are organised both at institute and at programme level. These activities aim to encourage social en professional contact between students, and stimulate integration between Dutch and international students, faculty and staff. For example: excursions, guest lectures, dinners, drinks, parties, etc.

Housing services

  • Experience has shown that students living and studying in Rotterdam spend approximately €1,000 a month. This amount is needed to cover daily expenses, meals, accommodation costs, insurance, study books etc. This estimate does not include tuition fees and unforeseen costs, and should be used as a general indication of the costs of living. How much money you will actually need depends on your life style. The costs for housing, for example, may differ considerably. Also, if you plan to travel during your stay, you will obviously need more money.
