The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is a medium institution well-known for the quality of its teaching and academic research, its international orientation and its higher than average study workload. Established in 1989, its mission is to contribute to the improvement of society through teaching of the highest quality and cutting-edge research in line with stringent international guidelines.

About

History

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid was founded in 1989 with the objective of providing an efficient, high quality public undergraduate and graduate education. Its name refers to the King Charles III of Spain. The philosophy that has guided the university since its origins is one of creating responsible free-thinking people with a sensitivity to social problems.

Education

The UC3M adapts every new academic year to the most recent advances in methodology, and implements as much as possible the technological advances that make learning easier for students, like the online platforms available to students that allow to study and research apart from communicating permanently and in a two-way communication with professors. In 2016, the UC3M moves up 41 positions in the QS ranking, is in the top 50 World University Ranking by subject.

The UC3M also was one of the first universities to apply the new high education plan designed by the Europeann Union: Plan Bolonia. It is known by teaching in small groups and introducing courses in English and Bilingual studies.

Research

In terms of research, in 2016, holds a third most productive University according U-Ranking, a ranking that presents the results of universities in function of their performance in three areas: teaching, research and innovation, and technological development.

The UC3M currently has 124 research groups, 26 research institutes, 24 Chairs for research, 18 Research Laboratories and more than 18.630€ funding in R&D projects.

Career

The UC3M gives special support to the incorporation of its students to the job market, promoting the contact between the business world and the students through professional internships in private corporations or public institutions, even within the services of UC3M University, during their last year of studies. The department responsible for doing so is the Servicio de Orientación y Planificación Profesional (Service of Orientation and Professional Planification). This unity, managed by the UC3M Foundation, gives the students services of information, orientation, job searching, and others.

Student services

Studying in Madrid offers you a wide range of cultural, sports and leisure activities. In addition to getting a quality education at a prestigious university, Madrid is a welcoming city which makes it possible to turn your university stay into an unforgettable experience. It is one of the most dynamic cities in Europe and it holds a great attraction for students from all over the world. For all these reasons, 27% of the students admitted each year come from other Autonomous Regions and they choose our University.

Housing services

There are a total of 982 places available in our three residence halls: Fernando de los Ríos in Getafe, Fernando Abril Martorell in Leganés and Antonio Machado in Colmenarejo. They all aim to provide a true home away from home for students and faculty during their university stay. For this reason, as well as covering the basic needs of food and rest, the residence halls also offer cultural activities, forums and get-togethers which contribute to the personal development of the residents.

Library services

The library of the UC3M is a central facility of the University with 5 points of attention distributed in the different campuses. Only the library of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law which holds 710 reading sits, and has more than 400.000 volumes.

Student Life

Campus life

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid has three campuses located in the municipalities of Leganés, Colmenarejo and Getafe.

The university has laboratories and practical workshops in the School of Engineering. These laboratories have the innovative equipment and technology to enable students and researchers to carry out their practical trials and experiments as thoroughly as possible.

A total of 48 computer rooms with 980 terminals distributed throughout the three campuses guarantee immediate access to computer equipment for students to carry out their academic studies. As well as Internet access, students have printing facilities.

Sports facilities

UC3M has modern facilities for the practice of sports including swimming pool, spa, paddle courts, tennis, squash, bouldering, climbing wall, football 7 and beach volleyball facilities, indoor cycling and fitness and function rooms available for practice of different activities. Playing sports at the University is very easy and comfortable as movements are avoided and also brings significant health benefits and is even shown to influence a better academic performance. Known sports centers of the campus and the possibilities they offer.

Student clubs

The Carlos III University of Madrid hosts about seventy student associations with different themes and interests. All of them are a key to provide answers to the concerns, demands and interests that students have in their university stage, constituting an important dynamic element of university life within our campus pillar.

It is encouraging to see the work that our students do every day from associations, using their talents, enthusiasm and experience to the University Community. All these experiences contribute significantly to their comprehensive training way, and to acquire fundamental skills for their future, from an active and participatory perspective in university life.
