Living Costs

The amount a student will need to spend while studying in Greece will depend on his/her life style. As a rough guide, the average cost of living in Greece is approximately 1,000 Euros per month for accommodation and living expenses.

Living in Athens

Downtown Athens is famous for its vivid lifestyle. All visitors may have an excellent stay and experience a lot of pleasant activities. Apart from getting to know the culture, the idyllic countryside and the Greek gastronomy, visitors should introduce themselves to the tingling Greek life style.

Whether you start with dinner and then hit the clubs, or begin with a couple of drinks and then make your way to one of the many bouzoukia (clubs specializing in Greek music featuring the bouzouki instrument), the city is sure to keep you entertained until the early hours.

At the city center of Athens at Kolonaki, Psyrri and Gazi you may have nice walks and find yourself enjoying a cup of coffee or a drink in the numerous cafes, bars and tavernas. Kolonaki is also a shopping area where you may find among others many designers boutiques. Most of the cafes and bars are located on Skoufa Str., around Kolonaki Sq. (Filikis Eterias Sq.) and on the streets vertical to Patriarchou Ioakeim Str.

In the south suburb of Attica in Vouliagmeni, the so called Greek Riviera, you are close to the sea. You may find a few café/bar restaurants ideally located, as well as casual dining restaurants next to the beach.

Greek Cuizine
Eating out in Athens is a great pastime and leisurely pleasure, either when dining at a local tavern (called taverna in Greek) or at an elegant restaurant. The Greek cuisine is delightfully uncomplicated and quite different from what's found in restaurants abroad. Much of the cooking relies on simple seasonings and fresh meat and vegetables.
